I'm not saying I'd enjoy it, but I could probably be talked into going on that.

Yeah. The SPI one looked pathetic as well.

The one in South Padre is designed around the river and that you never have to get out of your tube. It's the ultimate lazy person lazy river water park. It's not supposed to be like the original one if that's what you're hoping for.

It's a raft ride where you are belted in. Unless his harness failed it's doubtful he fell any differently than intended

I had a heart attack looking at the pic down the slide. I just got off the floor. Must have been a mild one.

Wonder hw he died because there are safety cages the entire ride.

The safety cages aren't all that relevant if you start falling forward and fall 100 feet. That net doesn't do shite for that. You'll still hit the bottom at the full speed of gravity and die.

I'm betting he broke his neck or suffered severe head trauma from exiting the raft

Yeah, from the looks of this picture, it seems like he shouldn't be able to fall forward into the cage netting, unless the whole raft flew forward or he somehow wasn't secured tight enough.

ETA: But I remember doing stupid shite when I was 12, like unlatching the safety bar/harness somehow while riding a regular (no upside down part) roller coater, thinking it was something cool to do.

The park's website said Verrückt is the largest water slide in the world, and riders must be at least 14-years old and at least 54 inches tall.

If he was gonna die, I'm glad it was apparently quick with the above post instead of being in pain
