An 8-year-old Canadian boy died from a fatal allergic reaction two days after he was allegedly served the wrong item at Dairy Queen.

The Gartland family of Kingston, Ontario, went on an outing to the ice cream shop on May 18 when the tragedy unfolded. The mother, Julia, ordered a vegan Dilly Bar for her son, Liam, who is severely allergic to dairy, eggs, and peanuts.

About five minutes after eating the dessert, the little boy went into anaphylaxis and had to be rushed to the hospital, where he fought for his life for two days before passing away

Dairy Queen sells the bars individually wrapped for the safety of those with dairy and nut allergies.

The company sent their condolences to the Gartland family and confirmed that the local outpost is working with authorities on the investigation in a statement to The Kingston Whig-Standard.

Damn that’s horrible. If you’re severely allergic to dairy why are you eating at Dairy Queen

You go to a Dairy Queen when your son is severely allergic to dairy?

Of course she is Canadian.

Sterilize her now.

I didn't know vegan Dilly bars were a thing.

I definitely wouldn't trust a minimum wage employee to get that right in a life or death situation.

Lord, help me find a way to mourn the little guy while also smearing his parents for their choices.

Is there a waiting period for epi pens in Canada?

She didn't have an Epi-pen?

Seems if your kid is deathly allergic to all these things, a fricking ice cream shop is the last place she should be

Exactly my first thought. To me that’s on the parent(s). You shouldn’t be at Dairy Queen to begin with, but if you are there it’s on you to double and triple check that whatever your child is eating is okay.

Hope the police at least investigate this and look into the mother's phone and search history. Nobody can be this stupid to bring their highly allergic to dairy kid to "Dairy" Queen! Sounds like she had to plan this.

Adults are so stupid

I sure hope they had an EpiPen on them in the car or something. But why even risk it going to Dairy Queen in the first place ?

First, this is terrible.

Second, I find it unbelievable that she doesn't have an epi pen.

Third, if the child is deathly allergic, why is this an action (the purchase) you would make?

That’s tragically horrific- but why go to a place where 70% of the menu likely has traces of peanuts.
