Funniest thing was EVERYBODY in my neighborhood group was all about "supporting the teachers" and then it gets voted down to hell. They're all full of shite.

ETA: And for the record, I'm all for giving them a raise and even my property taxes going up a little bit. But lets come up with a common sense number first.

They absolutely deserve a raise but not by a 40% property tax increase all at once.

They picked a fine time to think about striking. Right when the legislature is debating how large of a pay raise they can give them.

"teachers should be paid more and we should strengthen the public school system"

Also them:

This weekend, Bossier Parish residents voted down pay raises for Bossier Parish School teachers, as well as a proposal to increase Bossier Schools technology funds. The measures were both voted down by more than 74% of the vote.

They do not have to work in Caddo. There, there is your bonus/raise, Bossier teachers.

Good news for the teachers is they're about to get almost 3 months off work to think and fume over it all

Good for them. This is American as frick. Those teachers are underpaid and overworked. It’s a crime really and those kids will suffer because greedy assholes are worried about a few dollars in taxes

Also look at Caddo and Webster revenue/student. Almost the exact same as Bossier's, they pay teachers 5 to 7% more.

And a PAC claimed a 40% tax increase realistically
It would've been a 40% increase in the school millage, 25% overall increase.

They can "sick out" over the summer break.

how narcissistic do you have to be to think people wanna pay 24% more taxes so you can get a raise while working 3/4 of the year??

yeah, those fricking rich arse teachers already make enough money... i mean, more money to innovate and update classrooms in an effort to possibly improve educational value for their student?? education here in Louisiana is already good enough, as is...

just remember, folks... you get what you pay for... you wanna skimp on pay and resources for our educators, then don't cry when our kids aren't being sufficiently educated...

So how much of a raise would they have gotten? Whats the average salary now and what would it have been?

Asking for 26 plus mills new seems like a really, really big ask.

Jefferson Parish approved a new millage this weekend for teacher salaries, it was 7.9 mills though. They had a request fail last year. And JP has a new superintendent that seems like the real deal, and the two most obnoxious school board members got voted out this fall.

The Shreveport casinos are technically on portions of Bossier Parish because of shifts in the Red River since parish lines were drawn.

Bossier Parish also gets millions from Caddo casinos.
