Tell your wine snob friends this..there was a study where wine snobs did a blind taste test. They were asked to discuss the flavor, what fruits they could taste, how dry it was, the country of origin..etc. they couldn’t tell the difference between a $5 screw top bottle from the grocery store and a $5,000 bottle of wine. Those people are nothing but pretentious phonies. That crap all tastes very similar and people who bloviate like your friends are just putting on airs and looking like idiots. I fricking hate wine snobs.

Michael Ros stuff is

Narrow path sparkling (though that is made in California)

Would concede this. But if you want a weekend getaway it’s fine

Gotten so commercial now every shop has the same crap and is just junk. Comparatively the shops on Royal/magazine are a lot better but you can snag a few trinkits

why? I don’t get the appeal of this place.
Exactly. My sibling has lived in and around Austin for 35 years and when I visit I tool around there. It's nice, but just a day or two thing. I've done the wineries, they are fine. I like the German food in Fredricksburg, but I'm not going to recommend any of it highly.

I’ve been through there a dozen times, for work and vacationing to all the areas.

There is zero about it appealing above mediocre that you can’t just go do at a more appealing location

Im not a snob, but I can tell the difference between a $15 bottle and something higher end. It's not that difficult. Country of origin? No, I couldn't do that.

They dont taste similar. But, if his friends are snobs, they wouldn't be excited about Hill Country. Now, maybe he's mislabeled them when they are simply enthusiasts.

And the wine has advanced light years in the past 10 years.

I haven’t been in a few (3-4) years, but every red wine had sour cherry notes. They were fine, but the wife and I didn’t buy a single bottle from any winery we went to, which is extremely unusual for us.
