It’s nice. It’s a nice town.

Austin and SA have now exploded with people and money, a huge amount are Cali transplants that are very used to having wine country close by.

Makes perfect sense.

And the wine has advanced light years in the past 10 years.

In 2026, it’s a trendy place to go. I went through there around 2017 and did some wine tastings, and the guy said that the number of applications for permits for new wineries was through the roof.

It was trendy long before that. Before it was charming little town with B&B's that come peach harvest time it would get crowded. It was the wine explosion around 2003-2005 that really set it off when Texas passed the new winery laws.

Ok. Fredericksburg is fun. I’ve been all over the world. I travel a lot.

No one is saying that Hill Country is Burgundy. But if you can’t have some fun there I don’t know what to tell you

Check out these Sunday houses. The old Germans who lived around the area lived on farms in the country and on Sunday they would come to town and these are the houses they would be in after church. The stairs outside are very neat. They are also pretty small. Where else can you find this unique architecture?

They have a bar on Main Street in Fredericksburg that saved me.

Wine snobs are the fastest soul-killers there are. Rant away! Deserved.

Do the bar. Then go hike Enchanted Rock. Reverse that order may be better depending on snobbery level!

You’re not really going to find Wine Snobs much in Fredericksburg.

It’s pretty laid back by those standards. Very unpretentious

If you think Hill Country is snobby you might off yourself in Napa or Paso

Mason is even more boring than Fred but I like it more personally.

It’s just a bunch of middle class 40-50 year old ladies and then some younger moms and then a bunch of college girls that are into it. I don’t see what is pretentious about it.

The town of Fredericksburg itself is pretentious due to all of the rich people that invaded. Not to mention all the old Germans that turn their nose at any newcomers.

But this doesn’t really have anything to do with the winery scene.

You went to wineries and expected to be served scotch? Are you retarded?

I can see it going that way. Money is pouring in. Dominque Crenn opened a place there (or is?). I can see it getting more and more pretentious but I had fun last time I was there.

And the tastings are/were super cheap compared to other places which have gotten outrageous.

I live in TX Hill Country. Dude said he was with wine snobs. I trust he knows one when he is with one.

I have lived in Bay Area. Definitely wine snobs Mecca

I don’t do wine snobs. First sign of ‘can tell a grape from this or that region’ and I eject.

Isn’t there some large resort they are considering building in Fredericksburg?

And then Fredericksburg ain’t so bad compared to Wimberley.

Blanco is slowly becoming like those towns. Llano is too, I have heard, to an extent.

In mason they still have a name for people who weren’t born there and you’re stuck with it for life

Why would this bother you? You wouldn’t be happy to learn something you don’t know?
