Most of the oilfield money ends up out of state or out of country. Offshore salaries are nice, but they have cost seafood jobs and livelihoods and I don't know many oil workers who shed a tear. Not much guilt about wrecking the premier oyster, shrimp, flounder and redfish supply for the nation either. Frick big oil and their fictional safety plans. Just as bad inland, with all the canals that have been cut through the basin. Sure you can still buy a few oysters, but they are all washed and don't taste like oysters. If you are laid off from BP, take your unemployment check and buy your family a half gallon of oysters to fry.

Is this your daily "I'm gonna bitch about cheap oil thread"?

I know nothing about the industry. Don't know anyone who has ever been involved in the industry. My question is this.....How did everyone survive before gas prices shot up to 4 bucks a gallon? What's was life like for these families in the 90s when I started driving and I could get gas for .90 a gallon? Gas went sky high , economy went in the shitter , and everyone had a different reason why. I , without knowing how it all works , used to laugh at all the "reasons" and all the things that would bring the economy "back". I always thought this.....well , when folks have to spend 3 to 4 times as much money in a week on gas for their vehicles the money they spend on other things goes away. So , fast forward to 2016 , gas is dropping significantly in price. I , could be wrong, seem to want to believe the same things I thought back when gas prices all of as sudden , skyrocketed , that the economy should start booming again in America because people are spending 1/3 less on fuel. That's extra money goes elsewhere and in turn helps other industries. Why should I feel bad for ONE industry when many others seem to be in line to start doing much better??
I don't know that any of this is fact. That's why I'm asking for an explanation. Why , when gas prices shot up in the early 00s to mid 00s the economy suffered can the economy not thrive as they've come back down to a bit above a dollar a gallon? Please, someone smarter than myself, explain.

200k saved? You must be big time.

That dumbass probably has 200k sitting in his savings account, rather than invested somewhere.

No he's not. Company men and specialists can easily make that much.

And yet some of you idiots love to laugh at "low gas prices". You don't see the other side of the coin. This isn't just affecting the top but real people are losing their jobs and livelihood.
High gas prices were affecting my livelihood. I'll not root for them to rise, sorry.

Well, when you chose to work in an industry that makes tons of money ripping off consumers, I have little sympathy when karma comes back at you.
Again, poor planning and price-gouging (in a sense) are what got us to this point along with geopolitical BS. Where are these people's sympathy when other sectors have struggled and all they likely cared about was themselves?
Sucks to be them, but I have little sympathy towards them.
