I feel for anyone that gets laid off, and I personally don't drive that much so my direct benefit is low, but O&G workers were fricking douches about how much money they made for years.

It was annoying. I have family in oil and gas, along with a few friends. 2010-12, they were rolling in cash and they spent it like they were ghetto rich. And flaunted it. Now they are whining.

I don't really like either action.

OK this sucks. Is there no direct job skills that would translate from being a safety engineer? (No clue what that is)

Wut?

That's really not shite in the American economy and nothing compared to the mass layoffs so far in the oilfield.

I read where some guys in North Dakota were making over 200k a year and not saving a penny. They had lots of shiny toys though.

I'm guessing he inflated his title a little. Probably more along the lines of a hole/fire watch.

I know people that moved to the dakotas during this time, they made bank but COLA was insane. They were paying 3k for a bedroom in a house.

Ahh ok. So I assume most of these workers jump straight in from HS? Or is there trade schools they go to?

what on gods earth do you think a production engineer, drilling engineer, geologist or a geophysicist make?

I know people who work in commercial insurance that make more money than all of them.

Well it was said earlier in this thread that directional drillers make north of 200k.

I really have no clue, because I haven't seen a reliable source on what they make, outside of anecdotes.

Without sifting through 4 pages OP you're such a douche.

I own a route based business that has 8 vehicles on the road daily.

When gas prices were at $4 a gallon I couldn't fill my truck up without the pump shutting off at $100. We didn't advertise a lot that year. BTW that was just a few years back and we only had 4 vehicles on the road.

4 more people have jobs now that didn't back then within my business alone. There are far more people benefitting from small businesses like ours than are losing their jobs due to reasonable gas prices.

Which guys are you specifically referring to?

There are some great trade programs, especially in Texas where they start teaching skills for a few hours a day as early as 10th grade. It was great for the industry to help with the shortage of welders, pipe fitters, and electricians, etc.

To be honest I know very little about the rigs. I know there is those that have to figure out where the oil is and all that highly technical stuff so obviously they need degrees. I mean more of the grunt work guys. Is that learn on the job or something you need to get certified in at a special school?

If it is money that he planned to live on during a sustained layoff or other emergency it should be in a savings or money market account.

End of 2015 and 2016 may be rough years. Chances of a world wide recession are rising.

i guess in 1993 the 60,000 people that IBM laid off didn't do anything...

or the 2008; 50,000 people from Citi group...

or Sears in 1993 when they let 50,000 people go...

LINK

oh woe is me...the sky is falling the price of oil is too low....

You jump from 2000 people when I said that wasn't shite to 60K. Do you not understand how numbers work? In case you don't, there's a HUGE difference in 2K and 60K.
