Pretty aure ole Perry got my grandma all worked up. It came on at 1, so we’d watch it after lunch and she’d have a scotch or two while watching. 2 o’clock was quiet hour where I could go outside or go do something quiet in the basement. It dawned on me later in life that grandma was probably tapping the tuna.

An absolute hilarious podcast is Bonanas for Bonanza by Andy Daly featuring Matt Gourley and Maria Bamford. It's long-term improv where they play characters that love Bonanza and discuss every episode one-by-one. They made it through Season 1, Episode 18.

I learned a lot about Bonanza from the podcast, like how Little Joe is hot-headed because he's got some Creole in him because his mom was from New Orleans. Makes TOTAL sense. Also, Ben Cartwright either killed his three wives or shipped them off to brothels outside Virginia City.

My grandpa is 96 and watches this religiously. He’s still sharp as hell too, it’s crazy.

Ben Cartwright obviously should have been in prison … the man was thrice-widowed….

It was always difficult for me to watch Lorne Greene. One of the most wooden actors I've ever seen.

I remember going to a rodeo at Blackham Coliseum as a little kid and they had Michael Landon (Little Joe) show up.

He "shot" himself in the foot at one point.

Made me laugh … my Great-Grandma after lunch beverage of choice was bourbon and a glass of tap water with dried snuff

I've turned into my dad. I watch this, Gunsmoke, The Lone Ranger, and Roy Rogers every chance I get.

I hated the Waltons when I was little, though. Still haven't changed on that.

My grandma’s afternoon beverage schedule - 1 or 2 scotches on the rocks, iced tea or coffee, 2-4 Budweisers, vodka sodas until bedtime. My grandparents were alcoholics. Grandma a nice drunk, grandpa a mean one. It made for some tense evenings from time to time if grandpa had a bad day at work.

Seems like Bonanza came on Sunday nights initially. It was must see tv…. And like Gunsmoke came on Saturday nights. Then there was the Wild Wild West, Have Gun Will Travel, etc, etc.

I was a kid of the 50's, so Bonanza, Gunsmoke, Laramie, Have Gun Will Travel, Wagon Train, Rawhide, Maverick, Tales Of Wells Fargo, Roy Rogers, etc. were all westerns I watched growing up.
