We need more gas fired, more nuclear, more solar, more water, more hydro

Especially if we are going to push more electric cars and more electric devices

I’m as conservative as they come but nuclear waste is deadly with a half life 35,000 years. How the hell do we store that and where and who’s in charge - the damn government. You trust these arse wipes ?? Have you seen who the government hires ?

Don’t forget those resources are largely controlled by China

The future of nuclear in this country is pretty grim.

Which is so frustrating. Its extraordinarily power-dense and ultra clean.

Concrete and lead reinforced, concrete filled caves in the middle of the Nevada desert.

Put them in an arid, dust filled land where nobody lives. You could also put them in similar landscape where we did our nuclear tests in New Mexico.

Good idea in theory. In practice, it's an exercise in overpriced mutual masturbation that would make Rumsfeld himself blush. Won't ever work economically unless we dismantle the NRC and discredit the theories of engineering that they rely on.

And they somehow think these will magically produce enough electricity to power their 100% electric automobile fantasy.

I believe we really screwed up as a country when we allowed an anti-nuclear attitude to grow and fester.

Buddy, anti-nuclear attitude isn't a shaving off the iceberg of where we screwed up as a country...

Had we not caved into environmentalists 50 years ago, they wouldn't have climate change to kick around.

Don't worry, it already is. Possibly to the point of being detrimental.

I refuse to join the save the planet train until nuclear energy is put to the forefront. If you want to drastically cut down on fossil fuels, this is the fastest way to reach that goal.

Well Alabama has a whopping 2 nuclear facilities in operation.

Should have been 3.
Belafonte near Scottsboro was never completed. Maybe 80%.
At one time, TVA had plans to have 17 reactors.
I believe there are only 7 running now. 2 at Watts Bar TN, 2 at Sequoyah TN, and 3 at Browns Ferry AL.

They're good but so are clean coal alternatives.

Building new nuclear plants leads to melt downs. These liberal pussies will melt at a nuclear level and I don’t know why. Because nuclear plants provide clean energy in a way that doesn’t require redistribution of wealth.

It already is.

As a nation, we aren't even close to being lightly regulated. We are heavily regulated already.

Oh yeah, moar government. Please government, tell us how to do things the right way.

but with advances in technology, there's no reason we can't build safe nuclear power plants

Nuclear is safe, emits no CO2 (the thing the idiot environmentalists scream about), and it's steady power production.

Then of course there's the logistics of what to do with spent materials

That isn't a concern as the rods take up little space and can be safely stowed away on site.

2. The U.S. generates about 2,000 metric tons of used fuel each year This number may sound like a lot, but it’s actually quite small. In fact, the U.S. has produced roughly 83,000 metrics tons of used fuel since the 1950s—and all of it could fit on a single football field at a depth of less than 10 yards.

We need lots of the small footprint reactors.

Riverbend already has the space for one and rising natural gas prices (thanks Biden) make it more likely.
