The no-nuke movement in the 70s was the proto-woke movement. Completely based on feelings and not facts. Then these assholes who have piled ridiculous regs on new nuke construction try to claim nuke energy isn't any cheaper than other methods.

Trashy
I've seen better long term power options in the quad.

I agree but both designs have pros and cons.

My intent isn’t to be overly blunt or rude, but Unless your friend worked at Chernobyl, you’re either lying, or are misinformed as to his cause of death.
Oyster Creek, NJ. Early 80s.
Case was obstructed and buried at every turn.
You're a bit naive, aren't you?

How do we prevent a Fukushima or Chernobyl-like disaster? Thats my only concern.
I watched a doc on Fukushima the other day and that place is still completely uninhabitable and has an 18 mile exclusion zone.
Great question and follow up observations.
The Japanese engineered an over-built Fukushima based on safety specs to withstand strong earthquakes and other unforeseen problems. NOT SO.
So now the entire Pacific Ocean is shockingly contaminated -- along with the food supply. (Maps are avialable online of various toxic zones and spread.).
Situation is still FUBAR and STILL not remediated and STILL hemorrhaging high radiation. NOT. REPORTED. BY. MSM (what else is new??)
BUT...BUT...according to some here, Nuclear Power they insist is...REEEEAlly "safe".

It is.
The design flaws of Fukushima have been eliminated.

I also don’t agree with you concerns for sabotage, lack of oversight, or incompetence either, for what it’s worth.
Your prerogative, but wishful thinking and reality are two different things.

There are over 400 active nuclear plants in the world, and we have had how many major incidents?
In 20 years, your office building will probably have a micro reactor.

Dude I've worked in the industry for decades...its very small and nothing is a secret. Workers, even low level craft workers, are well versed on accidents in nuclear power generation. Where and when this occur?
Oyster Creek, NJ. Early 80s. I was a FIRSTHAND witness to the incident.
Wait; Did you also just claim, "Nothing is a secret"??
*Double eyeball roll*
Incidents at Nuke Power Plants were/are ESPECIALLY hush-hushed as NOT to cause any panic.

You mean besides the obvious HUGE disasters like Chernobyl and Fukushima that wreaked havoc on the environment for hundreds if not thousands of miles?? Chyeah, meh.
Countless "minor" incidents have merely been swept under bureaucratic rugs (as though the Govt, Nuke Commission, and MSM haven't been able to do that?)

There are some emotional wrecks who still believe it.
These people are rubes.

What's so awesome about this, is you can pretend as much as you want an no one can prove you right or wrong. Just another baseless claim with no evidence.
You'll reap the benefits of nuclear in your lifetime.

Maybe Rog (IF we are to believe those who claim it so) -- but the incredible, irreversible damage is still done, isn't it? And would you trust Biden or Dem oversight to keep us safe?
Moreover -- what of the existing nuke plants? Are they all undergoing re-engineering?
I believe we're being manipulated by the anti-gas/oil/coal 'Climate Change' fascists into desperately embracing and clinging to the only supposed "viable" alternative of cheap power available: Nukes

I don’t doubt that your friend died in a nuclear power plant, or that you witnessed it.
But he didn’t die from an acute radiation dose.
