This. A few years back the family and I went to this nice looking bistro in a ski town in SC. I got the chicken parmesan, thinking they couldn't possibly screw that up. Wrong! The only thing that had any flavor was the cheese. :(

You realize Will Ferrell was in the beginning of his SNL prime 20 years ago right?

It is definitely a stereotype largely shared the world over about us. When I used to go to a restaurant and order spicy food in Beijing, the waiters would laugh thinking they were about to be entertained since white people can't eat spicy food. They were always disappointed when they didn't get a show.

They fired Norm in 1998, which I think is the point where SNL was indisputably on the decline. It's a tragedy Norm didn't get to cover the Lewinsky scandals.

After 10-15 minutes of not laughing I end up changing the channel. It's just not good... hasn't been since the 90s.

The only good person on there now is Kate McKinnon. The rest are awful, and she's the only one holding this dumpster fire together. I can't imagine any of this cast going anywhere after the show except for her.

So black people don't like whites moving in to their neighborhood? Quite ironic...

I mean, even soul food is just Southern food, mainly co-opted from poor white cuisine. (The scots-Irish invented fried chicken).

And if you think white people don’t know what spice is, you don’t know any coonasses.

I talk recipes and food with my black friends at work and we've decided that coonasses are just light skinned black folks when it comes to the kitchen.

Coonasses and our heritage have WAY more in common with country raised blacks than with yankee white folks.

Just this morning my black buddy and I were talking about how we were raised, with the importance of respecting your elders and family. Those core values are shared with both cajun and country black cultures.

Poor but proud, family first, charity starts at home but radiates outward. Food is the center of every gathering, the party always ends up in the kitchen.

SNL has been making a come back here lately. It took them a while to reestablish themselves after losing what I believe was one of the best series of cast members of all time. (Hader, Wig, Fey, Peohler, Armisen, The Lonely Island crew)

Really wish they would dump the Baldwin as Trump cold opens. Alec took some time off last month and they had some of the best cold opens of the last couple of seasons without him. Farrell could do Bush every week and it would be funny, but Baldwin's Trump doesn't have the same charm. It almost feels too mean spirited.

If I cared to be this way I would be offended as a white person at that skit.... However, since I know it was comedy and only a joke I will do what most reasonable humans do and not be offended by satire that is aimed at degrading my race.

see how easy that was?! now if they do a "White Jeopardy" they will be protested into oblivion because it is only funny when it is not about you if you can't be a big person and laugh.

Why? They made fun of bland food. It was way more focused on black stereotypes.

Like all stereotypes, there's some truth in it. From about 1950-2000 or so there was a culture of single family units where both adults worked, spit out kids in their early 20's, and didn't have time to enjoy life or cook properly - fast food/processed food filled that need.

Since the early 2000's, people are having kids later and later so even though it's normal for both adults to work, they have time to cook. Add in a healthy rejection of fast food and you have the indredients of a "Foodie" generation.

As for our European friends, as soon as that became commonplace and the price of spices dropped, the rich people that funded the conquest stopped eating the spices.
