Read these at your own leisure. Let me start off by saying that I am currently not a father, so I cant offer that perspective.

But it was easier to make the black father the issue, not the systems and institutions that toy with black life constantly.

The flip side of this is, it's so much easier to blame the system than to take responsibility and demand your own people do better.

So, either way it's shitty parenting as the number one factor of bad children.

If believing that study makes someone feel better then by all means have it but having grown up in SE Louisiana and having lived in the south all of my life I'm going to have to disagree with it.

Fact is, they choose these men of their own accord, they encourage the behavior, and they know the government will bail them out.

This just reinforces something that is said here A LOT.

Ftr, I know several black men who are great fathers. In the big picture, though, it's anecdotal. The percentages don't lie. Problem is, race isn't the issue. It's learned behavior perpetuated over generations.

do you want me to post data about 2-parent households and marriage and how they're creating the actual class divide?

There is a mountain of research and data that proves your position is a complete fabrication, and a poor attempt to excuse inexcusable behavior.

There's definitely some truth to what you're saying.

That being said, these are things that will benefit the black community:

1. Marriage
2. Emphasis on education/trade school
3. Rejection of gang culture
4. Stop having abortions.

Father abscence decimates black communtiy

quote:

More than 19 million children -- about one in four -- were living in households where no father, biological or other, was present, according to a Census Bureau report in 2005.

The statistics also show that this burden falls more heavily on black children. Some 56 percent of black children lived in single-parent families in 2004

Shitty parenting is number two. Number one is skin color.

ETA I can say this with confidence, I have two sons and the black one is easily the worse.

I would agree with the exception of #4. I would sub in "don't have children that you can't provide for (through birth control means, not abortion).

I have tried to explain to black women that they are the root problem of the violent crime in the black community. I explained that they are only perpetuating a poverty cycle in most cases and are acting extremely irresponsibly when not truly considering the child's future outlook in the situation.

All I got back was that it was the black male's fault. I then spun it back to them because then explained that it truly their fault because they are the parent that is stuck raising they child and knowing that this would be the case and still acting irresponsible places the fault totally on their feet. I then said that it wasn't society's fault either because no man or woman of any ethnicity made you sleep someone that was unfit to have a child in the first place.

LA Times article in the one about "Deadbeat black fathers"

quote:

For instance, among fathers who lived with young children, 70% of black dads said they bathed, diapered or dressed those kids every day, compared with 60% of white fathers and 45% of Latino fathers, according to a report released Friday by the National Center for Health Statistics.

Nearly 35% of black fathers who lived with their young children said they read to them daily, compared with 30% of white dads and 22% of Latino dads. The report was based on a federal survey that included more than 3,900 fathers between 2006 and 2010 — a trove of data seen as the gold standard for studying fatherhood in the United States. In many cases, the differences between black fathers and those of other races were not statistically significant, researchers said.

the problem is this is a very small slice of the total population and somewhat shows the reality and strength of the 2-parent household (While possibly showing some misogyny for white people, but the results speak for themselves overall even with this issue)

quote:

The findings echo earlier studies that counter simple stereotypes characterizing black fathers as missing in action. When it comes to fathers who live with their kids, "blacks look a lot like everyone else," said Gretchen Livingston, a senior researcher at the Pew Research Center who has previously studied the topic. And in light of the negative stereotypes about black fathers, "that is a story in itself."

no fricking shite

the problem is so few actually do this

I like that All State commercial where the black actor is pretending to have:

1) a wife and 2 kids
2) a mini-van
3 insurance
4) a putter
