I'm guessing story is BS after re-reading this and the thread title. Never been in a church that "expects' you to give. And it's not bizarre. Bizarre is something unusual or unexpected. IF this happened, it was planned out. Either way you're an a-hole.
Planned? Definitely. I think you all are overreacting. No one died here.

So did you plan ahead to bring Monopoly money or are you in the habit of carrying it on you?

So I recently started going to church to support my wife. When they passed the golden tray around for donations, I thought it would be funny to put Monopoly money into it. My wife hasn’t spoken to me since.
You can’t be this stupid.

Why would anyone just carry around Monopoly money? The 'Get Out of Jail Free Card' I understand, but......fake Monopoly money?

Ask her how much has the church ever given y’all in y’all’s time giving to them. If that doesn’t work, let her find out you helped a less fortunate/needy person or family since the church refuses to do so. If that doesn’t work, your lady is a vile hypocrite.

Looks like the only sex you are going to be having for the foreseeable future is with your hand

If you and your wife aren’t going to church together, your marriage is already doomed. It’s not the moralistic go to/don’t go argument. If it’s important to her, but of none to you, then you’re way too different. You acknowledge it’s important enough to her that you feel you have to “support” her, but then you made a childish joke out of it. And the joke was not funny at all. It was just your passive aggressive attempt at getting attention. You sound like a real dickhead. If you want to support her, make it a genuine part of your life. Otherwise start thinking about alimony and child support.

What do I do? I could always give real money next time, like twice the amount I was expected to give Sunday? Would that make up for it?

The Letter of Paul to the Believers 4:1-4
Therefore, as God’s chosen ones, holy and beloved, clothe yourselves with compassion and forbearance, bearing with one another in love.
Let no harsh word proceed from your mouth, but only such as is good for building up, that it may give grace to those who hear.
And above all, remember this: the Lord observes the heart, and He weighs every thought. Let your gentleness be evident to all, for the Judge stands at the door.
Who are you to condemn another’s servant? To his own master he stands or falls—and he will be upheld, for the Lord is able to make him
