Why should the residents have to pay? Why should they have to pay? You ride a bike, you want the lane! YOU PAY FOR IT! The sense of entitlement from you bikers is hysterical!.
You pay for it
The home owners DONT OWN THE STREETS.
They are NOT entitled to have permanent parking there.
The only entitled ones are the home owners who seem to think they own public property.

Dude. You're missing the point. This shite is not free. You can't just go around willy nilly painting bike lanes on residential streets, that's not how things work.
Trying to make Baton Rouge into something it is not, will forever be a source of aggravation for everyone. It sucks for people who want to ride their bikes but it's the harsh relativity. It' not like we are talking about new construction. It's streets that were laid out in the 40's and 50's that were never intended for heavy vehicle travel as well as bikes.

You're right and to be legally allowed to use the streets you must have license, registration, and proof of insurance.
I'll start taking the bikers more seriously when they start carrying liability insurance.

That doesn't answer the question of, just because there isn't a sign saying don't do it, doesn't mean you can.
Correct. The only point I was making is that the parking space was, for a number of years, just a parking space. Adding a few painted bikes on the ground and one sign at the end of the street isn't exactly the best way to let people know that you can no longer park there.

now for my question. Why is a car lane on a street a right and a bike lane only a privilege?
You're stepping on your own dick with that question. You pay zero registration fees, zero insurance, gas taxes do not apply to you, and you have zero safety inspection costs.
I know you can call ridicule my question, but can you articulate why a car/driver has a right to a lane, but to a bike/rider it is a privilege?

Because bikes have the "right" to travel in a car lane.
Bike lanes are really superfluous and work where there is space and where its practical.

The city parish roads belong to all taxpayers. Not the neighbors. They are not going to give the lane up to residents for free parking. That's not how this works.

Why do you think insurance is expensive in Louisiana? Most cars don't carry liability.

This is not true. Dude. Stop. You can't just make shite up.

Man, some of y'all really hate bikers. Y'all are gonna be pissed when they make Government 3 lanes and add bike lanes.

This issue just needs a little black paint for it to go away.

When bikers start stopping at stop signs, I will start caring about their needs.

If I wanted to train on a bike, I certainly wouldn't pick Stanford as a route to my training spot. Jeez! Use your fricking head a just cut through Southdowns. Just because it's "legal" to share a lane with a car on a fricking busy street doesn't make it smart. This is what pisses me off.

This whole bike lane thing is ridiculous. The lanes do not make the biker any safer. The while line won't stop anyone from hitting you.

It gets you out the road and prevents traffic backup.
Or do y'all want to be behind a slow biker.
