While I agree we should live in a free market price gouging is also illegal.

Do with this as you may. This is a tough one because rent has already increased a substantial amount.

Where is the next stop for the folks who can’t make the ever increasing rent?

The streets which then becomes our problem or crime increases to cover their increased bills which is still our problem.

That is fricking insane.

I say this as a renter. That’s outrageous stifling of the free market.

Either that or people are just going to increase rent 5% every year to stay ahead of the curve. That is the stupidest thing I've ever heard of

Ah, that good Ole govt control over people's lives.

Same for all rights, right? I’m guessing you understand the principles behind allowing others to live their lives by their own creed and not determined by how others feel.

Rent, per the numbers in the article, is only up a little over 6% per year since 2021.

If he's going to have the government intrude and regulate the housing market, at least do something about investment fund and foreign investment in single family homes and incentivizing the building of low-cost homes.

The “fix” for any “affordable” housing issue places have is almost always the same. Make the unappealing areas appealing. Fix the schools, the crime, clean it up. Decent folks will begin to move in and out what was once housing no one wanted, becomes desirable.

If the content is such a secret, how did all the hundering turds proclaim rent something or other when they surrounded the Republican convention this morning chanting their demands du jour?

Biden to announce plan to cap rent increases at 5% annually nationwide
Which will cause rental property shortages.

The median national rent was $1,411 a month in June, up from roughly $1,150 in early 2021 when Biden became president, according to Apartment List.

Based on their playbook, that would mean the 22+% increase in rents over the past 3 years is Biden's fault?

Me looking through the constitution to find the part where it says the federal government can set the price of anything.

All this is going to do is lock people into the low income cycle.

Raising rents to reflect what people are willing to pay for a limited number of units is not price gouging. It is letting the market do what the market does.
