When I was a kid this is what all the old farts in my neighborhood rode around on. Hey Joe, it's time.

I can say with about 99.9% certainty that there isn’t another 80 year old that I would laugh at for falling down. What makes this worse is that this one is in charge of the country I live in and is “the most powerful person in the world”. What an embarrassment.

It's like he's a toddler. Reminds me of the hand tunnels parents would make after little league baseball games.

Foot got stuck in the toe clip

I'm cross posting this from the other thread:

He was using what are generally called clips which are part of the old school clip and strap system but still used by many commuters/rec riders with or without straps. The primary use of clips, clips/straps, and clipless pedals is to keep your foot from slipping off the pedal. It is the same for noobs as it is for World Tour pros. Anyone that has ever used any of the systems recognizes immediately what happened and 99% of them would be lying if they said it has never happened to them. I don't think it has happened to me on a road bike since the early days of transitioning to clipless pedals in the late 80s but it certainly happened to me in the clip/strap days usually from not getting the strap loose enough when getting ready to stop.* I do have it happen sometimes MTBing when I have to dab and I don't rotate my ankle out quickly enough.

What he did is shift his weight over the bike expecting his right foot to come out. In the old days when clips and straps were the only game in town the front of cycling shoes were smooth with really no place to catch on the clip. The combination of bulky nylon clips and athletic shoes with layered leather is they have lots of places for the shoe to catch on the clip. This is what happened here. As he shifted his weight and made the foot movement to get his foot out of the clip his shoes caught on the clip too late to stop the weight shift.

I have seen everyone from noobs to Cat 1/2 racers flop over from this exact set of events. Great meme material but to a cyclist it is just one of those embarrassing things those does, in fact, happen to even accomplished cyclists.

*it may have happened to me well after the late 80s but it is something I would have quickly tried to forget.

And people were worried about Trump having the ability to press the nuke button! Creepy Joe is more likely to fall asleep and press the button with his worthless head.

No he should pull his foot out before he leans over not while. He should not be riding with toe clips at his age.

When my Dad was his age, he probably couldn’t ride a bike safely either. But even with his oncoming dementia, he was still wise enough to know it would be foolish to try.
