Bratislava. A nickel buys you a hotel there.

CR coastal property near either major airport is not stupid cheap
This is correct. Have been there a couple times and love CR but anything near the coast that has basic utilities is high as giraffe pussy. Panama is the same way. Not sure about Belize. Nicaragua is the next big thing in Central America but more political instability and not as developed in general as Costa Rica.

Ecuador. Look into either Cuenca or Banos. Right on the equator, daytime temps high 70s low eights with nighttime temps in the 50s. Cheap healthcare, cheap mass transit, fresh fruits yearly, 2 hours from the beach or Amazon Rain Forest, friendly people, great expat community, etc.
I'd build up that 500k a little more though.

It's a more more than a nickel these days. That was back in 2004, only thirteen years after the collapse of communism and the economy was struggling. It's booming now. The same hotel would cost you at least a quarter now.

New Iberia, obviously. Haircuts will set you back a few though.

Isn't Nicaragua the muder capital of the world?

Caye Caulker which is only 45 mins from Belize City, is quite affordable. Island is only about a mile long, so there isn't much to offer but life is as chill as it goes.

Yeah southern Spain.
It would be cheaper to live their than where I do now. Good weather, beaches.
frick it, I'm retiring early.

Ecuador and I am not kidding. I know several different people that lived there and liked it for affordability and it was fun.

Yeah, I like Costa Rica a lot but Ecuador would be my pick.

I spent a month in Cuenca, Equador. Everyday is 70 degrees- large ex-pat community & their money is the US dollar. $1,000 a month for everything has you living the O-T baller life.

LOL. I dropped a random street view and the first thing that showed up was an old guy wearing an Airborne Special Forces baseball cap. How hard is it to get around with just English?

True - but if you want $500k to last 40 years, you're not drawing much more than $2k per month on a consistent basis - just sayin'...
