Was in Costa Rica on pacific side, land is stupid cheap but it's still by all means a third world/developing country. Very little amenities. The people are very friendly though

Spend your summers hiking long trails and your winters working ski resorts for lodging + pay.

Boom, out of the rat race.

'm sick of the rat race, 40, no kids, and single. What country could I go retire, play golf everyday, and live comfortably with about $500k?

Take a trip to glacier national park and renew yourself

When you get back get you a mail order bride (Asian ones treat you like a king but will want to maintain contact with their family, Russians will spend you into oblivion) crank out some kids and enjoy them.

Kids are great!

Having spent the last 6 years in Malaysia/Indonesia around a lot of guys who are retired oilfield lemme tell ya - the money doesnt go as far as it used to.

Here is my semi retired (Im 32) wait for the oilfield to come back budget:

Avg round of golf in Indonesia is $70-100 x 6 rounds a month = 420-600$
You can rent a shitty apt for $400 a month
Food and drink $1000
Misc like Uber/flights/gf etc $1000

I budget 3000 a month, could maybe get it down to 2500.

So thats 30k a year MINIMUM

I just read an article on this. The #1 country was Costa Rica. The others mentioned were Panama, Malaysia, and Mexico.

Seriously, Guatemala would be an excellent place. It's not an expensive lifestyle and while it may be a third world country, it is on the up quickly.
You could live comfortably and have a whole hell of a lot of fun
