Indian Creek just south of Alexandria used to have a great primitive area with lots of space and a really nice area for campers.

It isn't like those Vegas attraction campgrounds. It is more in touch in nature and relaxing.

we used to get black out drunk camping here back in college

Colorado.

Putting up a tent in a mosquito infested swamp or pine forest is not camping...it is surviving uncomfortably outside.

Lake Claiborne and Caney Lake/Jimmy Davis. In Arkansas, Lake Ouachita is pretty nice. Beautiful, non-murky water.

Indian Creek has seen my Jackal and Hyde side too!

Also around that area is Valentine Lake with really nice primitive camping at Kincaid & Kisatchie National Forest.

As mentioned before, It you are interested in South Arkansas camping, D’arbonne, Jimmie Davis and Claiborne are all pretty good sites.

Kisatchie NF has many places to camp. Here's some:

-primitive camping site right off LA 472, East of Williana
-Stuart Lake off LA 8, West of Pollock, is really nice. Has bathrooms, etc.
-Breezy Hill area off LA 524, North of Pollock, has primitive camping+single track trails

It fills up during the spring, but we've always loved driving past Pensacola and going to Fort Pickens, FL. It's part of the Gulf Islands National Park system. Only about a 4 hour drive from Baton Rouge and the white sand beaches are hard to beat.

Excellent place. If you happen to be there when it's not crowded, you can have huge areas of beach on the gulf or back side to yourself. The bird watching is great as there are lots of nest in the area.

The old fort is pretty neat to explore as well.
