Nashville is the quickest, most convenient airport that I have flown in and out of. Atlanta also. Has everything you need and it’s like being in a shopping mall with airplanes.

Why is Portland best?
Fast, easy to use, great local food/beer/coffee, entirely covered outdoor area, light rail goes directly to the airport.
I haven't been since the new main terminal opened, but it's supposed to be amazing.

CLT is the worst. I used to connect through there a few times a month. 75% of the time it resulted in a delayed flight.

and the third world airport that is Miami International
Onliest up side was the time the late Sunday afternoon AA MIA-MSY got cancelled, Dale Brown (& I) were supposed to be on it.
I sat alone with him for the three+ hours before the 9:00 pm flight we were reassigned to boarded and (as you might imagine) the conversation went around the world and back.
Hates the NCAA, in case no one knew that......(he said facetiously)

Best: Shreveport. Walk in 30 minutes before your flight and have no line. Virtually no security check as well.
Worst: Atlanta. Airport is like a zoo. Massive airport that is just completely slammed packed at all times.

They are all equally bad.....and it doesn't get any better outside of the US. The small regional US airports ain't horrible but you always wind up in one of the massive greyhound bus terminals for airplanes....

Erbody talks shite but Atlanta is fantastic. Atlanta is super easy to get in and out of. You can fly pretty much anywhere in the world non-stop. It is laid out in an orderly manner. Some (big) airports are like a maze. DFW is fricking retarded.
ATL is the best big busy airport in the world and it ain't close....it is almost perfect. Still a massive pain in the arse but considering the volume it handles daily its pretty awesome....

I truly don't understand people who don't like the Atlanta airport. Like yea it’s fricking big but they can handle any amount of holiday traffic, you can get there via Marta to avoid driving and its layed out in a way that is easy to navigate. Not to mention that there are quite literally dozens of dining options in each terminal.
It’s mostly locals like me. It’s a PITA to get to from the suburbs and it’s huge and people-y.
Yeah you can take MARTA (which I’ve done a few times) but if you’re parking at North Springs or Doraville it’s likely going to take longer than had you simply driven in. Solid option if I’m by myself, not so much with the wife and small kids.
Operationally? No doubt it’s fantastic. But experience wise? Like others have said, once you’ve done it a few times it’s whatever but nobody looks forward to a trip to the airport.

You are right. Detroits airport is nice.
I’ll give Seattle an honorable mention.
The worst is LAX.

I’ve found Denver to be quite nice.

LGA is super easy for me. Fly delta, get drop off in sky priority because the escalators to the gates are right at those doors. Go up and decide if clear or tsa precheck is the fastest line. Usually through security in 10 minutes after drop off

The southwest terminal in Minneapolis could give someone depression quickly. I think there were 3 food options, and one of them was Subway

CLT sucks big sweaty balls Period.*
SLC is really nice now that the construction is done.
*Honorable mention to LAS solely for the longest checked luggage times in the nation. Don’t check there if you don’t have to. It takes forever to get your bags.

I don't like flying out of Atlanta, but I love connecting through Atlanta. Extremely easy and painless airport to navigate.
Agree completely with this.

I don’t like LGA because when I was in and out of there a lot it was dirty and depressing.

ORL (credit Jor Jor for the edit) is absolutely my vote for worst.
Still wrong. Ha. It's MCO for the main Orlando airport.

I don't live in Shreveport, but ok, cool post. Didn't realize you had to live in the place for it to be a requirement for picking the best airport.
