The best thing you can do in those situations is to just go on and get the hell out of the way.

Honestly, people expect rudeness on the roads and I find that trying to be nice just causes confusion. As a result, I don’t do this much either. I am not rude, but I don’t go out of my way to be nice either.

I think many times they can’t even see you because of the glare on your windshield.

Next time you drive, notice how many people you can’t see through their windshield.

...My wife does this at stop signs. I think women never know who technically goes next....

For some reason this made me belly laugh. Thanks Gaston.

There’s no need to be polite at all 4 way stop. If you’re there 1st, then it’s your turn to go. Pisses me off when someone gets to the sign way ahead of you, then proceeds to wave you through. Just go dammit! You’re screwing the whole situation up.

I wish I could upvote 1000 times. These people are sabotaging the entire system because they are lazy.

Nothing worse than a zipper merge with folks trying to merge half a mike back.
Why people don’t understand you drive all the way up then get o er, one car between the next. Or the people who refuse to let the merge happen

I still do it - but I've been burned a number of times - my most extreme examples:

On the way to work on 4 lane road at intersection with another 4 lane road - traffic backed up a half mile at red light. As I approached the light, I noticed a car on the side of the road one car-length back from the light that nobody was letting in. Decided I'd let it in and when I got there, noticed it was a pretty girl driving. I slowed to a stop to wave her in - she finally pulled out in front of me and the light turned yellow - she slammed on her brakes and there was a shock wave all the way back to LaPorte. I honked my horn in frustration - and she then RAN THE RED LIGHT - cars from both the intersecting lanes slammed on their brakes and caused another massive kink in the timeline of history. Thankfully nobody got killed.

Took off work early on opening day of deer season and was on I-10 heading west just west of Houston - still on the elevated portion of the freeway. Traffic backed up for half a mile for an accident up ahead - only one lane getting thru - noticed a car in left lane just behind the accident scene - as I got closer, noticed it was an old lady. When I got to her, I slowed and motioned her in - and she was hesitant but accepted my offer and finally pulled out in front. Then, when she got even with the accident she came to a FULL STOP to gaze at it a few more seconds. Another massive red brake light impulse buckled the freeway half way back to Beaumont.

Harris county sheriff agrees. When someone gets 1/2 mile of warnings that their lane is ending, and takes zero action, it's my job to slam on my brakes (potentially impacting traffic behind me) to let them gently coast into the lane I got into 1/2 mile back (at 50+mph).

Feels like it’s mostly women. I see men wave every time.

Preach brother. I follow the social contract but I really wish everyone would get on the same page here.

Idiots will stop in the middle of a two lane road to let someone out.. Hey a-hole, what about the guy behind you!

This!

It’s the merging cars responsibility to pick a spot and get up to speed. Stopping to let some a-hole out disrupts the natural order of things.

I only let them in if they are going speed limit or above. I'm not slowing down to allow anyone in. Your job is to be at the speed of traffic when you merge

I leave a safe noticeable gap. It’s up to the other driver to take initiative and make the move. If I have to wave you, you clearly didn’t want it enough and missed your chance.

All I know is, I don’t let the people merge over who know damn well a right lane is ending, yet they wanna use it to pass everyone up, and then suddenly cut everyone off.
