Being a teacher is tougher than any other job in the world, and way more rewarding

quote:

Young teachers explain what it’s like working in the hardest profession on earth
quote:

Engineering majors and Wall Street wannabes look down on those studying education with the phrase: “Those who can’t do, teach.” But they’re wrong. Teaching, as anyone who does it will tell you, is a grueling, demanding, and unforgiving profession. Teachers work long hours for low pay, grading papers at night and planning lessons on weekends. They’re faced with instructing large classrooms of kids who can smell fear, and the arguably more daunting task of dealing with their parents if things go wrong.

quote:

The workload is huge
“I wake up every day at 5am and stay at work until 6.30pm, and then I have homework on top of that. I get around five or six hours of sleep a night.” – Jessica Garman, an elementary school teacher in Washington state

You have to ignore the engineering and econ majors who say your degree is pointless
“Most people in college were like: ‘Oh, that’s very honorable, I could never work with kids, I’d rather make more money.’

You have the toughest job on earth
“Teaching is the hardest job in the world, there’s no doubt about it.” – Laura

You have to really want to be a teacher
“It is a difficult job. You’re warned you’re going to spend extra time grading and doing lessons plans. You teach full-time, grading part-time. I arrive at 7.30, I heave at 4.30. And I work three to four hours on the weekend.” – Jessica
quote:

The toughest part of the job is the parents
“The hardest part of my job is knowing how much effort goes in. It’s tough when a parent questions you. We get criticized more than we get praise.” – Natasha
TheTab

Is there a more delusional group of people (maybe mothers in general?)? No one is going to take teachers seriously as long as they continue to speak in such hyperbolic ways.

All this time I thought being a lumberjack, a sanitation worker, a roofer, working on an oil rig, managing deepwater drilling projects, a firefighter, search and rescue, prison guard, Alaskan Crab fishermen, a farmer, an astronaut, etc. were difficult jobs. Little did I know how difficult teachers have it.

People that don't want kids but act like they have a clue about the stress that is parenthood.

ETA: That downvote wasn't from me btw. Lot of teachers from my wife's side of the family, so I've seen some quality social media posts over the years.

You'd have to pay me well over $100k to take that job.

But there are definitely tougher jobs out there.

these all sound like boring, sex-less jobs. at least teachers are getting laid.

If a teacher is teaching 3rd grade for example, all you need to know is a little more than them. I don't see the problem or pressure

I dunno man. Minesweeper in the ME seems like it could be a wee bit tougher and the reward of returning to base, much less home, in one piece sounds good too.

I had no idea the physical requirements for being a teacher were so demanding.

I mean, just look at the flexibility you have to achieve to pat your own back and kiss your own arse constantly.

Pretty normal hours.

Plenty of people do this too.

You don't get paid or treated like a professional unless you are held accountable like a professional.

Difficult bar to entry? Nope.
Easy to terminate for performance? Nope.
Advanced degree required? Nope.
Work 12 months a year? Nope.
Susceptible to malpractice suits? Nope.

Any job a woman does is the "toughest thing ever"

Nurses, teachers, stay at home mothers, etc

All of the above have obnoxious social media posts about how hard their lives are

Nurses can be terrible too.
GF is in hospital recovering from surgery. The nurses have BSN on their badges.

Who gives a shite? Does my work badge say "Joe Smith PhD"?
