What's the breakdown if you take out the Asian winners?
And how big are each of these schools?

Do you not think episcopal has an eye on the family background of the students they pick? Do you not think charging as much as they do in admission helps them start with a study body more apt for learning and succeeding?
What Episcopal seems to do a good job of is out performing similar schools.

BRMHS is roughly a 4A-5A school, meaning in the 60-80% quintile of school size.
Catholic, St Joseph’s, and most other Catholic schools are in 5A enrollment but that is given a 2x multiplier by being single sex schools.
Episcopal is a 2A enrollment of roughly 400 total in the HS.
U High is a 3A enrollment.

Episcopal and pay the money (tuition and prop taxes) versus send their kid to BRMH for free (except prop taxes) giving them a better chance to be a national merit semi finalist.
I had a kid who went to BRMHS for her Freshman year. Academically it is a WONDERFUL school. She did great too but it wasn't a good fit for her, she wanted to dance and all BRMHS had was ballet. There was no football games to go to. And it was ULTRA liberal, like to the point that she couldn't ever state her opinion on something unless it alligned with the liberals. They did walk outs for some person that got shot by cops. She switched to St. Michael her soph year on a full ride scholarship, wound up graduating with 21 hours to LSU. So all and all I think it was the right decision.

True. BR Magnet is an indoctrination factory.

BRMHS sounds an awful lot like the “honors college” at many schools.
High concentration of liberal arts majors who are somewhere between Mao and Stalin politically and would end up getting their head shoved down a toilet at most other schools.

That’s impressive

Id really like to see a ten year average for this. There can be a lot of variance year by year. Pretty sure northshore high had like 10 the year I graduated

The St. Tammany public schools: Northshore high,Covington, Fountainbleau, and Mandeville had 13 semi finalists
If you add up all the other traditional public schools in the state(non magnet/selective entry) its 5

I have friends who sent their children to Episcopal that were aghast that my kids went to BRMHS. Soooooo lowbrow.

This has little to do with the schools and far more to do with the kids who choose to go to these schools. These kids would have made this list regardless of where they attended.

Although I’ve heard that episcopal is not as conservative as people think it is

Oh it's 100% indoctrination. My almost 16 year old wants to transfer over to BRMHS. I said hell no. She is a tad on the liberal side so I gotta do what I can do to keep her level headed until she goes to college.

I think 6 is slightly below average. A really good year will get 10-11, 7-8 is typical.
Looks like Newman had a down year with only 7.
Episcopal has 100 kids per class, Baton Rouge High has 400, Catholic is tougher to guess because they have 8th graders, but I suspect that is a limited number. I would guess they have about 250 kids per class.
As for the gay mafia line, I’m not sure they had a ton of clout tbh. At the high school level, they had 4-5 teachers, so maybe 10 percent. They were also generally the ones with the most prestigious degrees, as I think the hiring climate was much more difficult 20-25 years ago for that demographic than it is now.

I agree with this. The top kids are going to go where they want to go and probably be a national merit semi finalist wherever they go.

I’m not surprised at all about the stepdaughter of the Dean of students. This was WAY before being trans was accepted (and even considered hip in some circles, mostly in coastal cities).
But it’s a little misleading about the Dean of Students as he was about as far as you can get from being a super-alt, leftist. He was a pretty southern guy who mostly liked golf and wanted to talk about and play the sport
Fwiw I thought he was a very good guy. Also never had a single negative experience with the gay teachers, who were all professional and very qualified.
Never heard a thing about the headmaster’s wife though. This is from the 90s? Or newer?

They also have widespread robberies, murder, and plagues of locusts. Stay far away. St. Tammany is NOT a place you want to live.

I don’t really understand SSA. They lag behind ST Paul’s in academics and enrollment. Common sense would tell me at least enrollment should be on par bc they’re the only all boys/girls schools on the Northshore. I would walk down the street and take some notes if I were an administrator at SSA.
