Ban? No. Tax the shite out of? Yes.

We have 25% of the state on government sponsored healthcare. If you are going to make poor health choices that costs the tax-payers money, you should pay for it.

you should see all the freedom loving "conservatives" on the PT supporting a law that would make wearing a mask in public illegal

No way. If you want to smoke, go ahead. Increase the taxes while we're at it, but don't outlaw it. This is coming from a former smoker btw. People need help with cessation. Let's start there.

Yes, you should. So quit voting for Democrats and big government GOPers. Eliminate unconstitutional agencies and programs like Obamacare, Medicaid, etc...

No I can't support this. People should have that freedom to ingest these substances. I could support taxes to recover the social costs not borne by those who use these items as long as they are not punitive in nature (i.e. the amount of the tax doesn't exceed the social costs not directly paid by the consumer of the products). The main problem, though, is that these taxes usually end up getting spent on other shite. Particularly so since they many times are enacted by governmental bodies that don't pay a substantial portion of these costs (e.g. cities that tax sugary drinks even though they're not the body that pays many of these health costs and use it for other shite).

Well since I don't drink sugary drinks or tobacco, you aren't paying shite for me. If someone wants to be another statistic, let them. I will say those sugary drinks and smoking (along with alcohol) are way worse than weed yet somehow weed is the only one illegal of the 4 (I don't smoke weed either just making a point).

No I would not

I would support not treating any medical problems that might come from it with taxpayer money

If we are paying for everyone's healthcare, then yes. Elections have consequences.

I’m all for free enterprise, capitalism, and whatnot

But, why are tobacco and soda companies allowed to produce and sell a product that is addictive and negatively affects more lives than any illegal substance?

Why can’t someone mass produce heroin and sell it?

Hell...I wasn't even specifically addressing this idiotic idea. Just, in general, we seem genuinely unhappy as a people with freedoms. And by that I mean, freedoms that OTHER PEOPLE enjoy but we don't.

I mean...think of how many rules most people seem to be in favor of that REALLY don't effect themselves. Not to take this off topic, but years ago I was having lunch with my wife and a couple of tables away there were these two guys talking. The place was fairly quiet and they were kind of loud so it was easy to hear they're conversation. This had to be 15+ years ago and they were arguing about gun control. Eventually, the guy arguing in favor of very strict gun laws said, "I'd be willing to give up my right to own a gun if it made everyone safer." His friend laughed at him and said, "What are you talking about? You don't own a gun and you know you'd NEVER own a gun. Are you really giving anything of value up if you'd never use that right? You realize that's what you're asking everyone else to do, right? "

There are very few examples of someone willing to give up some hard won or cherished freedom they actually enjoy themselves for whatever they seem to think is the greater good. But, hol-e-shite, people are very quick to point at all those other people doing things that need to be curbed...

This cuts across party lines, across ages, across races, etc. For whatever reason, most people seem completely unwilling to allow other people to live their lives as they see fit.
