re: Backing into a parking spot is the best way to park in a parking lot

Other than pulling through it’s the safest way to park and in many parking lots is the only way I can get into a spot between two other vehicles with the terrible turn radius on my truck.

I hate when people need to use a 30 point turn while everyone else has to wait

Pull through is easily the best way. However, as backup cameras get more advanced, I think it is becoming negligible on backing in vs frontward parking as far as the safety aspect is concerned.
ETA: As i've seen some say, larger vehicles it may be the only way they can really get into a spot, so caveat there.

For larger vehicles it’s optimal especially if the lot is tight. For smalls not necessary at all..

My boss, who apparently is also the parking lot police, will not allow anyone to back into a parking space. I have tried explaining to him that in an emergency, it would be safer and faster for people to just drive their vehicles out and exit rather than everyone trying to backup and waiting, avoiding collisions.
We had a couple new people hired recently who backed in. He had the guard put a note on their vehicles explaining the parking policy.

Well, we have to wait for you to back out when you leave when you could just quickly pull out. See how that works?

What's more time consuming and difficult?
1. Backing into your spot, ik everyone will claim they fly in backwards first try everytime.
2. Backing out of your spot, which actually is a one try everytime, and a 0 effort one at that.
I'm going to do the one that causes me the least effort and time. I think people somehow take pride in their decision and it causes stubbornness.
Edit after reading some of the thread. If you're all leaving at the same time, it's valid to back into your spot so the mass exodus isn't as much of a mess. If I'm not leaving at the same time as everyone else then I disagree.

Why does it matter how a person parks their car? You all gatekeep too much.

Backing into parking spots is remarkably gay.
Here’s a person who has never owned a long wheelbase vehicle. I can only turn into many spot going backwards. It has to do with which end of the vehicle has the turny wheels.
If my rear wheels turned (instead of the front), I wouldn’t have to back in.
Dumbass.

if you can do it in the same time it takes you to pull in normally, sure, if not, GFY.

I've seen a couple of companies in Houston office parks that require/recommend this.
I back in when there's not much congestion. If I'm backing out in NOLA, my head is on a swivel checking all directions plus the backup camera, checking for plaintiffs who I might "hit" when they fall into my bumper or pull out suddenly from the opposite parking row.
I'm also suspicious of "the wave." From wiki:
"The "Wave-In." A supposedly good actor waves the victim in, but while the victim is changing lanes, that person deliberately smashes into the victim's car. When police arrive, the bad actor denies ... The scheme is mostly employed where cars are merging, or in parking lots.

Generally speaking, OP is correct.
I have been a certified Smith Systems Driver Safety instructor for my company since 2006. If you don’t know what that is google it. Should be mandatory training for all drivers.
Lots of correct answers so far. Yes, parking farther out in lot where there is fewer cars and greater chance to create space around your vehicle is best. And if you can pull all the way thru a spot then you definitely do that. Backing up is the most dangerous thing you do in a vehicle. But if you can’t pull thru park then backing in first is safer than backing out later. When you first pull into a parking lot you have a current up to date picture of where everything is. You pick a spot between smaller vehicles and back in. If you pull into first then once you come back to vehicle later everything has changed now maybe instead of smaller vehicles, that have left and larger ones have pulled in which decrease your visibility backing out. If you back in first you don’t have that problem.

People that are skilled backing in
do not exist.
They also give no indication that they want to back in so I usully just take the parking spot from them. They then piss and moan about taking their spot. How the hell am I to know that was "their" spot. They passed it up.

Pull through is the Best
And away from other cars if possible. (If you don’t mind walking)

I back in or pull through 95% of the time. I promise you I wait for people attempting to back out blindly way more than anyone waits on me.

If you can't figure this out then you're probably not capable of comprehending it.

No blinker or reverse lights. No backing in for you!
