Watched a documentary once and they ran several experiments with speed dating formats, and administered a questionnaire on a number of traits.
For women, height was the only thing statistically more important to them than anything. More important than looks alone, personality, clothing and style, voice tone, etc.
The lesson? Short dudes, invest in some Tom Cruise style chelseas and lose some weight (makes you appear taller).

I get what your saying here. I'm 50+ years old, and in a hat, jeans and a t-shirt most days and when at the local watering hole.
If I simply comb my hair, throw on a long sleeve button-up, and some leather shoes, the women come from everywhere.
Show any sign of money, and many women turn much more aggressive.
