Who is the carrier? For most it is around a 5% discount, but with some carriers but if you are a “unsafe” driver, you lose percentage or f discount fluctuates. Others carriers offers a locked in discount for that term but the percentage can go up or down at renewal. In most cases though you start at 5% percent and the percentage goes up or down at renewal.

If you have an agent (everyone should get insurance with a specific person that you can call/ talk with to actually advise you), ask for the safe driver discount. If you like the discount and have the option, I would get the plug in before getting the app. The app tracks you if you are driving or not and can penalize you if you are riding with a shitty driver.

Don't get it. Not worth the discount.

Same but it was only for a month or so when we got the policy. Then you send it back. I saved 30% (max discount) and wife (no pics) saved 18 or 22%.

I drive 3.5 miles to office at no more than 55mph. She drove, like any woman, terribly… but 25 miles to her school at the time.

Those things are complete bullshite. They say they can help you save money for your safe driving habits, but all they do is penalize you for some arbitrary BS the insurance company sets. Tell them to frick off.

My experience with USAA's app was.different. They offered a trial period that was purely a test drive. I saw it was basically an app to detect phone usage. No detection of speed, no fussing over driving on the shoulder to pass 18 wheelers that drive parallel to each other at identical speeds, and it only detected hard landings on the other side of railroad tracks.

As long as I did not mess with my phone while driving and did not do any hard braking (J-turns are not detected), then it gives me good driving credit. I'm now set to save 30% from my current rate beginning in December.

I have one that gives me a 15% discount. I’ve had some in the past that plug into your car. This one just sits in it. When I go on trips I take it out and leave at home. I also don’t have the app on my wife’s phone so when she drives it doesn’t connect to Bluetooth and register. So now I have low mileage reported which increases the discount.

I was looking at getting one for my van but I had a big trip out west with my GF planned and was holding off until just I got back. I’m back now so I’m considering it - what’s the possible downside???

I would put one on my car, not on my wife's. When she drives I feel like I am supposed to be shooting at the car behind us, every drive is like a chase scene.

What insurance company?

As long as it's not Root, it won't negatively impact your premium.

State Farm does this, so do other major carriers. I argue with my wife about it all the time. They claim they want to use the data to get you the very best rate; I suggest they start with a great rate and then when I give you a reason to go up then do so then. They'll absolutely use this data to NOT give you the best rate if they see you drive a ton or drive above the rated speed limit much of the time.
