Now, owner and longtime New Orleans restauranteur Augie Lopez is vowing to make his customers whole. “They are all going to be taken care of,” said Lopez in a telephone interview on Monday. “They have to be patient but I’m working on everything.” Pre-payments Lopez has been in the local restaurant business for 48 years. Before running Augie's on Jefferson Highway, he owned the Windjammer on the West End, Augie’s Glass Garden in Metairie and Augie’s on the West Bank. The abrupt shutdown isn't the first time Lopez has faced financial difficulties. Court records show Augie's has periodically had trouble paying its bills over the years. The restaurant racked up more than $15,000 in liens for falling behind on its Louisiana state taxes from 2016-2018. The restaurant had a $6,000 judgment rendered against it in late 2018 for failing to pay Reinhart Food Service for foods and supplies. More recently, Metairie Bank sued the restaurant in April for overdrawing its checking account by more than $2,600.

You get your money whenever he is done paying bills. Screw you Biden.

My buddy owns a reception hall, and has been getting blown up by people who were ripped off by Augie and are now scrambling for another venue.

Not surprised. My old job rented out the "whole place" for a huge meeting a few years ago. In the other room they also happened to have a wedding which was loud as frick and pretty much ruined the meeting. Food and service were also poo.

Dude seems Sammy's level of incompetent. Used to love Augies De Lago and WindJammer and Glass Garden.

They never seemed to be hurting for business but, somehow can't pay bills?

Dude has been an arse and sketchy for as long as I can remember. I know a few vendors always had him on Cash on Delivery for anything they sold to him.

I remember enjoying Augie's Glass Garden.
Can't remember exactly where it was, close to where the Galleria was built I think.

Wasn't he or one of the family members big gamblers? Money seems to finally run dry for him. I remember he sold the one on Vets to Billy K.

Augie got his start as a chief at Sal and Sam's and later was a part owner back in the 70's. I worked there stating as a bus boy then waiter while at Rummel. He left there to the Windjammer then Augies Glass garden. I worked as a waiter there during summers at LSU. His brother was the chief at all three locations. Played golf with Augie and one day we where headed to City Park to play golf. I needed some golf balls and he said he had some in his bag. Open up the bag to find a 38 and a ton of cash in there. He asked did you zip up the back and I said yep. He said he did not have time to hit the bank. I guess back then he did not have money issues. Heard from my sister the place on Jefferson sucked!

Sal and Sam's was a trip to work at. The two Italian owners were rumored to have gotten there money from mafia activities. Carlos Marcello and many local bookies where there often. Saw a women caught on fire. women stab a dude with a steak knife and a waiter sexually assault a women while eating here turtle soup!!! Just a crazy place!

Sorry! A local big breasted belly dancer came in by her self for dinner. Dennis the waiter was serving her. He asked me if I thought her boobs were real? I said I don't think so. She ordered turtle soap and a steak. As he was bring her the soup he said watch this. He walked over set the soup down and grabbed her boobs. She screamed and walked by me and said yep they are real. Sal immediately fired him but as he told me I was going to quite anyway.

Another Sal and Sam story. I was on 18 year old waiter and the the rest where life ling waiters 30 to 76 years old. A waiter we called David X was a nice guy when sober but the hulk when drinking. With all the bookies hanging out he decided to try his hand as a bookie and let everyone know he was taking bets. A few jockeys use to come in there for dinner and I waited on Pat Day a few times. Vic another waiter got a tip that a horse named I-10 was going to win that night at Jefferson Down. He was a long shot and we all bet with Dave. The night racing was on the radio back then in the kitchen area. We all listed to the race and sure enough I-10 took the lead during the final stretch. It took Dave a few week to pay up and that was the end of his bookie career!
I use to fish with him quite often. He had a nice boat. Helped him move and supper nice when sober. While I was at LSU I heard his long time girl friend was cheating on him. She lived with him and another male room mate. It was late one night he was drinking with the other room mate. He told the dude just watch when she gets home. She shows up and as she walks in he grabs a 12 ga shot gun and killed her. I seen him when he drinks and he is insane. One night he beat the crap out of 4 off duty Jefferson Parish police officers. Chased them out of Sweet William's pool hall and shattered their car window!
He was convicted for murder and spent time a the New Orleans parish prison. Not sure why he was not sent to Angola. We also was a chief and I heard he was the wardens cook. He only spent a few years in prison and I was still at LSU visiting home eating at Taco Tico on Veterans and he comes walking in! Could not believe he was back out on the street.
I can pass on the women who was set on fire one Saturday night if anyone interested!!
