Holy shite, Bob, you are bringing back some memories!
Sal and Sam’s and steak Diane I believe it was at 12:30 in the morning was the absolute bomb.
Would go there with a couple of friends, and everything we ordered was cooked at the table. Finish it off with bananas foster on fire with the lights low.
Good times! No idea how we used to afford it, because we were young, but didn’t care

Yep we where opened until 2:00 on weekends and loved to wait on winners coming from Jefferson Down race track. One night 4 came in late and no one wanted to stay. I waited on them and gave me $100 tip for stay. Not bad for back in the seventies. Made good money cash there. Cooked many Steak Dianes, Ceaser Salad and Banana Forster's at the table. The main reason why I'm a pretty damn good cook today. Spent a lot of time in the kitchen! Also kept me in school and did not want to be a waiter for life. We would go out and hit Fat City till dawn at the Spainish Galleon and many other fine establishments. Graduated from LSU in Architecture.
Waited on Pete Maravich quite a few times. He liked the Honey Glazed Pork Chops. Cheap arse Al Spamusa the crawfish king. Derby winning horse jockey. Al Copeland was there a lot. Carlos Marcello and his mafia crew. Many Saints players one being Billy Kilmer! Not may will remember him!

Whoever wrote that should be charged with murder for butchering English grammar.

I used to work at Augies glass garden. It was horrible. I was working multiple double shifts Fridays through Sundays from 10 AM to midnight running and sweating my arse off. I was 15 and exhausted at the end of the day At first my Dad was like, “that’s good for you…learn how it is to have a hard life,” but then after seeing how bad it was my Mom eventually reported them and they were cited for multiple offenses for child labor laws and sanitary.
They mostly hired Spanish people who could be taken advantage of. But they were short staffed so they hired my white arse along with my white friend but with a Spanish last name.
After a couple months I had enough and quit.
It was a great experience though. I saw a lot of hardship at such a young age and it motivated me to do better and how to treat employees.
My favorite memory of the job was the mindset my friend and I had. At the end of our Sunday double shift, we would dump an open ice chest used for champagne during brunch in the parking lot (after they removed the leftover champagne). One time two bottles fell out. We each popped one open and drank it like we were on a water break, and would wave goodby to people leaving the restaurant while sipping the bottle. We felt that we deserved that champagne after being worked so hard.
They were woefully understaffed and had AC issues with all that glass in the restaurant. Hot as hell during the day.
Oh the memories.
