But Goddamn do I feel so much better after a good nights sleep on it.

Both of my parents have them and swear by it, but I just can't get used to it. I do sleep like trash but it seems like my problems go away when I lose weight and slowly come back when I gain. I am about 30 pounds too heavy right now and I wake up with a headache basically everyday and feel like I been awake for 36 hours.

Will be doing a study soon. What's the best one for initial comfort?

My Philips Dreamstation is on the recall list
I took it apart after watching several how to videos on YouTube and checked the foam inside of it.
Mine is fine with no deterioration at all.

Just to be safe I add a bacterial filter inline so that no tiny particles could pass through to the mask.

They sent me an email 2-3 weeks ago saying they've just gotten FDA approval and will begin the recall process "soon".

That means you are going to have to mail in your machine and wait for them to repair it.

I'm chest deep in this crap right now. The manufacturer is beating their chest on how well they are handling the recall, meanwhile 99% of the machine owners have no idea what is being done, or how this is being handled. Everyone was supposed to get a letter directly from Philips. As of today, I have yet to speak to anyone who has received any correspondence from them. Philp's reps are attempting to blame the consumer for not registering online, even though they just started requiring this a couple of weeks ago. The retailers have sent the names/demographics of their affected customers also.

It's a complete shitshow.

He plugged it in, started it up and listened. Also queried if I had seen any black debris in the hose or mask. Asked aboutSoClean. That was the extent of the inspection. Also said to keep an eye on it. He did not seem too concerned. He’s been my CPAP doctor for 21 years.

I did register my machine on the Philips recall site.

I got an email in June so I registered my device. Still haven't heard a peep from Phillips on a replacement.

I just went ahead and bought a Resmed from a local medical device place in town. Resmed is so much better than Philips. My AHI score went down from a 4.5 on philips to a 2.2 on my Resmed. That seems like a small amount but I can tell a difference.

I'm going to keep the new Philips as a spare whenever we get it, but I'm team Resmed from now on.

Mines been registered from the beginning. I sure dont want to have to send it in before getting a new one. Maybe I'll take it apart and check the foam.

Nb4 someone calls you a fatty.

Everyone I know under 55 with a CPAP is morbidly obese. I have always assumed it is anecdotal, but I would love to see the statistics on fat vs non fat on who has them. I could lose some weight, but my BMI is sub 29 or around 28. Lost 40 lbs and have a much better overall health over the last year when they realized fatties die from covid much easier.

I sleep on my stomach like a psycho and I'm an insomniac to boot. Sleep studies don't work when you are awake all night at the study center. I know from first hand experience.

I had to try several masks, but found the Phillips Dreamwear mask. It doesn't have to cover your mouth or go up your nose at all, and works great. Have been using them for at least 5 years now.

I'm not obese, just unlucky. Started wearing mine early 30s. I was 6'2 185lbs at the time. I'm now about 205lbs. I could probably lose 5 lbs but it's not gonna make a difference with the CPAP.

I'll be eligible for a new machine in January (BCBS says you can get a new one every 5 years). I'm sure January will be here long before they recall my device. I wonder if I'll be able to get a new device then or will all the new inventory have gone to fixing this problem. They really have botched this whole thing.

Just checked a reddit CPAP group and new machines are randomly being sent out to a few people so far via FedEx.

The sleep study test I did, it was determined that I stopped breathing up to 25 times an hour.

I stopped breathing about 55 times per hour, so when I don’t have the machine I’m basically not getting any sleep. I went a couple of years like that and finally addressed it. Life changing for me

Another guy in the sleep study at the same time as me stopped breathing 105 times an hour. I don't think I even tske that many breaths an hour.
FWIW, he was a big dude.
