He had an anscestor named Solon that was his source. Solon traveled to ancient Egypt and based on the descriptions the Egyptians gave him, Solon learned of a civilization that once existed 9000 years before him that was destroyed. The descriptions were passed down and Plato put them to paper.

This is a relatively new find and it’s pretty compelling. It lines up with geological history and they are finding archeological evidence there now to further support the theory.

What does that disprove? Most if not all ancient civilizations built their greatest cities around natural formations.

In fact, your point proves why it COULD be Atlantis because the uplift has continued for 12,000 years post the mini ice age leading to it being above sea level where it is today

What if I told you Plato stated Atlantis was destroyed 11,600 years ago?

And that matches geological records of global destruction and a mini ice age?

And that Plato’s describes the size of each inner island and those sizes match the eye of the Sahara perfectly?

What if I told you that Plato had no idea what happened 11,600 years before his life?

Interesting fact:

Sahara desert has a 3.7 star out of 5 rating on Google

Who rates a desert?

He was relaying what he was told.

But using your logic, I assume you don’t believe in evolution?

I would say fossils and word of mouth are 2 different things.

That isn't Atlantis but you are in trouble now. The smoke monster is going to be super pissed that you found his base of operation.

Ancient Mega-Lake discovered in Sahara Desert

Smithsonian article detailing how there was a 42,000 square mile lake in the area (would be the largest lake in the world today).

Science has proven this part of the world was one of the lushest in history 10,000-12,000 years ago

Atlantis was an island called Thera south of the Aegean Sea.

Yet they are finding actual evidence of a civilization there. Pottery. Tools. Gold.

Another interesting tidbit - Plato claimed the old writings on Atlantis claimed it had many elephants.

This area is known and was known for having many elephants whereas the other theorized locations had none.

Pretty sure Plato placed Atlantis in the Atlantic ocean.

Also, it was an allegory.

right. it was a tale of the downfall of hubris. there may have been a civilization that used to live in this area that he based atlantis on, but i think its pretty well accepted that atlantis has never existed and was an allegory

Probably true but many think Thera, of the Minoan age, was destroyed very horrifically...remains found prove it. Hard to say.
