This has always been a much bigger problem than "CO2", but nobody cares because there is no money to be made in alarmism. No energy to tax. No population/mind control to enact.

Losing the oceans as food sources is going to be a huge catastrophe for humanity. Not a few tenths of a degree Celsius increase.

Well we won't be the first animal to go extinct.

I agree.

But this particular study doesn't appear to be very factual.

Is this recycled shite from the study that sets off the story in Soylent Green?

Fair enough, but I make this point (more generally) all the time regarding the silly AGW cult. Perhaps not this study, but this "problem" is far more pressing than CO2 concentrations.

Can someone not create a plankton farm and dump a bunch back in the ocean?

I just want to go back to the Little House on the Prairie days when there was plenty of plankton

Keep on trusting the experts! Get your infant the vaccine, stop eating meat, and prepare for the world where phytoplankton (algae) don't grow even though the oceans still exist and the sun doesn't go out.

ETA: after 38737299483 warnings about how the planet or humanity is doomed, do you really, in your soul, believe this one is right? Eventually someone will be right, but it's probably not this time.

Even if this fear porn is true, the ocean pollution isn’t coming from developed countries yet we are expected to pay up and alter our lifestyle while they let China, India and Africa countries pollute as much as they want with no consequence

The “all the bees are dying” approach has failed so many times. Now, they move on to this.

Once again…. Not really the USA causing the issue but they want us to change our lives to correct the problem.

An Edinburgh-based research team fears plankton, the tiny organisms that sustain life in our seas, has all but been wiped out after spending two years collecting water samples from the Atlantic.

The landmark research blames chemical pollution from plastics, farm fertilisers and pharmaceuticals in the water. Previously, it was thought the amount of plankton had halved since the 1940s, but the evidence gathered by the Scots suggest 90% has now vanished.

well lets see

chemical pollution from plastics and pharmaceuticals in the water - water runoff from chemical plants just needs to be stopped from dumping into rivers and lakes and make them process it on land in retaining ponds.

farm fertilisers - this makes plankton and algae grow like crazy to the point it sucks out all oxygen out of the water from the abundance of growth. so it just needs to be stopped from dumping into rivers and carry it offshore to dump it straight into ocean and in a week there is too much plankton and algae growing like carzy so problem is fixed

there, i just solved the worlds problems in 5 minutes without needing a global task force and $billions of dollars in research, just using plain common sense

How did they sample this?

My guess is this:

Plankton need sunlight, thus they have to live within a certain distance from the surface.

All they would have to do is gather samples from about a 600 foot depth, and they can claim what they are claiming.
