We call this self fulfilling research. Organizations pretending to be about facts and science but have an agenda putting out studies meant for lobbyists. And they have to come to a certain conclusion so that they can continue to get grants and make money.
The thing to do is fund another think tank and tell them to blow a hole in this guys theory. If they can’t then we should look at it harder.

farm fertilisers
Plankton needs nitrate, calcium, sunlight, phosphate and C02 to survive.
There is no way farm fertilizer harms it.

Our results confirmed a 90% reduction in primary productivity in the Atlantic. Effectively, the Atlantic Ocean is now pretty much dead.
Lol this article is so much bullshite

I can't speak to the legitimacy of the article. But is it really that hard to fathom (pun intended) that all the plastic we generate and throw away may have negative affects to the planet?

If this number is true, it’s not good

Someone better tell Discovery to cancel Shark Week. It sucks because it is right around the corner.

We better be preemptive and kill the whales now. They eat to many plankton.

that’s a whale of a problem

They want to go back to well before middle ages.

If this number were true we would already be seeing Blue Whales floating dead and washing ashore everywhere. If that were happening it would be plastered on every news source in the country.

Blue Whales alone eat 16 tons of plankton a day.

I agree. A 90% reduction in planktonnwould already have a massive impact on marine life.

Does that mean when we get there we can use Middle Ages torture on those who ruined our civilization

Something tells me that somewhere within this news piece and the research that went into it, or how it was funded, includes a heavy amount of bias.
How did they sample this? We already knew the climate researchers are willing to screw with measurement tools to get results to move in the direction they want, why couldnt this have happened here?

They expected to find up to five visible pieces of plankton in every 10 litres of water – but found an average of less than one. The discovery suggests that plankton faces complete wipe-out sooner than was expected.

Exactly. This is just another dumb fear-mongering piece of propaganda.

Of course, but its impossible to find the truth as to what extent those negative effects are because the issue has been heavily politicized.

AI do not need to eat and emit no CO2. We are fixing to be replaced.

Okay, so when whales and dolphins do not all die off, will they promise to cease all operations and fear porn? Doubt it
I'd rather they carry on about this than the bs climate shite. At least they have evidence to back this claim that plankton are mostly gone. Whether this will have an impact on us or not, something should/could be done to reduce pollution to water ways and oceans. Where is the evidence for climate change? Further more, where is the evidence that any little bullshite we can do, can have an impact? Anyone that's not a dumbass can imagine the impact on the world with less trash/chemicals in water. The big green push has a negligible impact on climate change.

If dolphins, shrimp, speckled trout, redfish, and crabs can survive in the nasty arse waters off of grand isle, they can live anywhere.
