Slightly off topic, but I recently talked to a really hardcore bible thumper who was telling me he and his family don't celebrate Christmas because it's actually a "pagan tradition."
To each their own, but in my mind I was thinking, "1.you sure are a miserable bastard and 2. This guy is seriously confused."

He's got an argument about pagan components to the holiday but misses the point about just enjoying family on a holiday. If he does an authentic 30 AD holiday what would it look like anyway? Crucified elves? Women dying in childbirth? Intestinal parasites? Pin the nose on the leper? I'm just as happy with silly parades and basketball on television.

I don't make a deal of it, I go through the religious motions out of respect of my family, etc. It's far more important to me to have a good relationship with my family then to try and prove that I'm right. People who do that have miserable lives. It's not hard.

I celebrate it like pretty much everyone else does for the most part with all the commercial shite. Tree/Lights/decorations all over my house cause of my wife and kid. Don't pay attention to the Christian addition to the winter solstice holiday. No issues with telling people Merry Christmas or Happy Holidays.
I am not a big fan of the Santa Claus lie to children, but will let my wife have her fun there. I draw the line at the fricking elf on the shelf. My kid will call bullshite on that crap. I have already talked about it with my friends who have kids and to let that one go when my kid is around. I won't lie to her about it if she asks me, but I won't try to get her to ruin their fun either.

Something I heard recently put this all in perspective. There is religious Christmas time and cultural Christmas time.
I doubt the majority of people in the country believe Christ is the son of God. Most people are actually enjoying some cultural time off and with families.

Wat? Over 80% of the country still professes to be Christian. Meaning they think Christ is the son of God. Even if a chunk of those are just claiming that and don't really believe it the number is still way over half.

Well since my parents are so religious that they don't celebrate Christmas, Christmas on my side of the of the family is quite easy 
Now on my wife's side, we typically do like most in this thread, we go through the motions and will attend church with them if they ask. But her family doesn't get overly religious about Christmas, so its not hard.
The hardest part is sitting through 5 fricking hours of opening gifts 1 by 1.

Yep.
I view Christmas as time spent with family, which is always precious. The couple of times I need to bow my head out of respect is worth it.
My family doesn't ask me to go to church anyway, so it's easy.
