My fellow Atheists, what do you do and how do you manage the Christmas holidays?

I don't make a deal of it, I go through the religious motions out of respect of my family, etc.

It's far more important to me to have a good relationship with my family then to try and prove that I'm right. People who do that have miserable lives.

It's not hard.

What is there to manage?

As an atheist, I realize the need for holidays and the such.

Manage? All I have to do is not work, eat like a pig, drink like a fish and spend time with loved ones. There's no "manage" to it. Going to church drunk for an hour with my parents and brother isn't exactly much to ask.

How much of modern day Christmas is really "religious"?
Sure there are special church services and nativity scenes and such, otherwise it's all secular.

Basically none of it. I fricking love Christmas. I even enjoy the religious aspects of Christmas even though I don't believe any of it. Maybe it's the nostalgia of it. But I also love religious Christmas songs in general.

It's not often the first post of the thread, is the best answer...

As a Christian, I completely respect that and I'm sure your family does too

Jw, do they bother you about your choice to be an athiest?

I enjoy being with family, the food, gifts just like anyone else. I respect the faith of others even if it doesn't work for me. I dislike militant atheists just as I do religious zealots who want to save my soul.

Even as a nonreligious person, I think it is very disrespectful.

I'm assuming it isn't like he is running up and down the aisles with his shirt off or muttering bull shite under his breath. Seems to me like you are trying to bait something here.

I protest in front of churches after pissing off my family and friends with my extreme vitriol toward their faith.

I try to keep Christ out of Christmas.

Seriously, I love trees and gifts and cheesy music and all that jazz. And I say Merry Christmas.
