My daughter turned 15 this past weekend and it hit me hard Saturday morning.
In three years she'll be into her Senior year in HS and will not have much longer left under our roof - frightening thought.

I am fully aware that my youth has been spent.
My get up and go, has got up and went.
I am pretty happy as I think, with a grin.
Of all the great places my get up has been.

My older brother always said every day is a gift. Enjoy them as such.

The ultimate birthday song to shite on all birthdays.
Add-On: I think the trick is that you do it, then when you’re supposed to have kids is when your life kicks into hyper drive. You’re meant to watch your kids do it, then if you’re lucky you can watch your grandkids too. Otherwise over the course of history we just weren’t meant to last this long.

Im 49 and it really hit me hard this year. Hard to swallow that I probably only have 25-30 more years

Never.
I learned a long time ago that growing old is a privilege not granted to everyone. I am thankful for the chance to age. Better men than me were denied.

Do you have kids... It's when you have kids. Life before kids felt like it was moving at a snail's pace. Once that first one popped out, it got faster. Three kids later it's blowing by. Months feel like weeks, days feel like months. Hard to explain.
This.
Except I'd say its really not until they turn 10-12 months and start moving.
Feel like it took a decade for them to start walking/crawling and not just be a lump. Ever since they start walking its flown by

Just before I turned 25, an older co-worker told me that life speeds up after 25. It does, and as the years go by beyond that it seems to speed up even faster. I'm 55 now and it seems like a whole week blows by in the same time that used to be only two or three days.
A while back I watched an interesting take on this. What it boiled down to was that we experience time as being compared to our total lifetime. For example, If I'm five years old, each year of time accounts for 20% of my entire lifetime. However, if I'm 50, then each year accounts for only 2% of my entire lifetime.
This effect causes us to feel like time is moving faster because each second, hour, day, etc. accounts for continually less and less of all the time we've experienced thus far.

I will be 45 next month. My dad died at 64 and it really hits me when I think that at my age he only had 19 years left.

The first time I truly felt old was a couple of years ago when my youngest child told me he was to old to go to Tigerland
Right after my divorce when I was around 45 I went to the LSU/NC Chick-fil-A game in GA and after the game my buddy and I went to hit a few bars and I realized almost immediately how awkward we looked...nobody was over 23.

I was like "we should go home now"

A monotonous life goes by fast. If you do the same thing day after day, week after week, it sure feels like it goes by fast. I'm guilty of that.
Do as much as you can. Make a thousand small memories to break up routine.

My kids from kindergarten to leaving for collage went by in a blink of an eye.

Now, 40’s with kids. When you realize your life is about halfway over if you’re lucky and you want to cherish every moment but time is speeding up not slowing down.

Never really thought too much about it until I hit 55.
My dad used to say, "If there's anything you're interested in trying, do it now!" He was right. I feel like I don't have enough time left to investigate all of my interests...

Rummy my friend, do yourself a favor, and very mindfully do something sweet and selfless and beautiful for your daughter that is out of the ordinary that demonstrates your love for her. Take her somewhere unexpected, cut class and take her to a concert or wherever, just the two of you. It will sustain her in years to come,
I know you know all this. For other's benefit.

Now that I'm 60, looking back, the last 30 years are now like a blur....
It just seems like yesterday Katrina hit and the Saints won the Super Bowl, It's been almost 20 and 15 years..
It especially flies by when you have kids...
