Remember, northern schools are much more academically rigorous and prestigious than our lowly southern schools.

You don't think this shite won't just keep rolling uphill--to med school, the workplace, etc?

It is a business, you don't get rid of a tuition paying customer.

Sorry, that is the way academia works these days.

We're gonna be hopping a flight to Cuba for medical care within a decade at this rate.

Organic Chem is always a weed out class.

If these kids can’t hack it now, I would hate to see what kind of doctors they will be down the road.

The only thing I withdrew from at LSU was some trig class.

Struggling in trig is a bad sine, but an “A” in organic chemistry isn’t very common ether.

That is pathetic. How dare someone try to hold students accountable? We are doomed.

Tell me more about your knowledge of his standards compared to reasonable standards. How well did they sync up?

I guess you haven’t seen the news about Penn’s medical school dumbing down admissions.

When I took the class many moons ago people who were in danger of failing just cheated their asses off incl me. generally the professors don't give a frick anyway because they teach the whiteboard, not you, and grade tests and homework like fricking robots with no idea of who actually did what, who asked questions, or even who showed up.

My wife is pretty much teaching herself organic chemistry from the book/material she finds online.

Yeah this seems to be the rule rather than the exception. Hey chemistry professor if you're reading this I want you to know I cheated on the big final exam and everything I needed to learn from your course was taught to me in future classes by better instructors

"Chemistry" definitely keeps many out of Medical school ....but it's a big hit in Art school.

Years ago, I took organic at LSU. First test, I got 100 and the class average was like 60. Professor wasn’t planning on curving but I guess enough kids complained, so I started the semester with 40 bonus points. Future tests were harder but it was an easy A with that cushion.

Yes, this was like the Mechanical Engineering's Dynamics & Thermodynamics courses - for those that somehow made it through Calc & Calc-Physics. When I took it in the '80s, the latter shrunk from 150 to 40 students by the end.

AIUI, the medical/dental schools really don't want to flunk anyone out, and so they basically have minimum requirements like taking Organic Chemistry and having a good enough MCAT score.

EDIT: I can remember going to a urologist when I was an LSU student, and my regular physician was unavailable, so I saw his partner. I told him about me being an Eng student, and he said calculus was the hardest thing he had to take.
