IMO the most likely reality is this:

An increasingly infected bureaucracy and administrative state that has allowed corrupting ideology (DEI, etc.) to infect the host and reduce effectiveness in order to advance social ideological causes has reduced the strength of the US military, the entire US law enforcement apparatus, most major corporations, etc. It's not entirely BLM or DEI, as some of this was ongoing before the recent flare ups - but the theme is the same. Dedication to the ultimate objective is being curtailed to allow for other, unrelated social/political objectives. A lot of times the basis is neutral - we want girls to see women on the details so they know they can be a USSS SA too!

But at the most basic level, what objective reason is there to have a weaker, less physically capable female protect a US leader? There is none. You can't tell me there aren't more physically capable men available who want the job. That's not a slight, I have no doubt that many/most of the women on protection details for USSS work hard and are willing to do everything they can for the job - but they're still not the best tools for the job. So why are they there, in such vital positions? This isn't a first daughter situation where the SA needs to relate to the protectee or blend in or whatever.

So if we just start there, it's emblematic of our institutional problems. At arguably the most important physical task in US law enforcement, we're sacrificing effectiveness for...something else. Optics, woke points, equality, to inspire, whatever.

A couple of decades ago, you could reliable claim that corporations only cared about profit or growth, or that the USSS or DOJ was a very serious bunch of professionals who could be dominating the private sector but instead were applying their obsessive personalities to the public sector for public good, to lay the groundwork for success in the private sector and the like. I think that's long over, and that cancer has spread and is spreading, and we're seeing all of these institutions hollowed out as they become more distracted by things outside of their core purpose.

Some will attribute this to the "swamp" and I do think this administrative purposeless allows swamp creatures to survive and thrive. But the most likely answer here is that it's the culmination of years of bureaucratic rot. In other words, I don't think this happened because of those female agents that looked lost in the chaos. But I think this happened because at some point the mission stopped being 100% protect the candidate and became 90% protect the candidate, 5% inspire the dreams of the underprivileged, 5% level the playing field, etc.

You already actively labeled half the country as dangers to democracy and enemies of the state. You have regularly and openly threatened them with F-15s. You are my enemy, Mr President, and whoever is actually running the country. Get fricked.

Maybe, maybe not.

The supposed most dangerous people in this country, white supremacists, have never really tried to attack him so it's hard to say.

I am not an expert on this but they have snipers on roofs and people are supposedly willing to take a bullet for him, I don’t think they forgot to cover a nearby crows nest.

Everytime democrats get caught doing something shady they bring up unity or we must Unite

It's their guilty face.

When I was at LSU, I was the in the ROTC Corps of Cadets. George H.W. Bush, who had been out of office for seven years at this point, was coming to dedicate the war memorial on the parade grounds. At least five days before the event, the Secret Service was there scoping the campus out and talking to people. At the ceremony, which lasted a good while, we were in formation. Bored from the long line of speechmakers before getting to the former President, I started glancing around, playing "spot the SS agent." I remember seeing a sniper in the bell tower, as well as the law center. Milling around in the crowd were "students" with ear pieces. They were on stage. They were everywhere.

Former Presidents have excellent protection, unless the head of the USSS doesn't like you, and gives you the B Team.

If I had to guess, the security plan for this rally was hastily developed w insufficient planners and resourcing. No idea if their protocols call for it, but some simple red teaming of the plan would have revealed flaws and vulnerabilities. Often, ops planners skip or cut short that critical step when faced w time constraints (due to few personnel and competing events). I've had leaders say "we have no time for that just give us the plan so we can get it up for approval." Planners get focused on details and solving specific problems logistics, comms, manning etc and develop blind spots and/or unconscious pride/faith in their planning efforts. Or, they fixate on specific threat vectors, contingency scenarios or other planning rabbit holes and miss something obvious.

On otherhand, maybe red team didnt throw the simple threat course of action out there thinking no way a goon could just walk up w a huge ladder and backpack and scale a roof out in plain sight uncontested.

Now, Im glad that at least Biden and the Dems are saying they want peace and unity etc now.

But I am just having trouble knowing if they actually believe it, or they are just doing it to cover their own asses for their own PR. Based on their insanity and rhetoric, to me it feels not genuine.

Maybe this finally does call for some introspection from the media talking heads and the dumbest of our political “leaders”… we can only hope.

What sucks
Is that we should not even need to have such security at any rally… but this country has fallen apart to that point….

Meh, political figures have always been targets of violence. Teddy Roosevelt was famously shot while giving a speech in 1912.

What they mean by “Unity” and “Democracy” is unconditional surrender and one party rule where your civil liberties are completely stripped from you for the greater good.

We’ve crossed that Rubicon a century and a half ago when Lincoln was assassinated. Hell we’ve probably crossed it by our mere nature since the beginning of time.

They claim trump is a dictator but it's what they really want. Just not him as the dictator.

Right well said

I never attribute things to conspiracy when incompetence is on the table, and in the federal government, incompetence is always on the table
