I wonder if that means they are going to end the remote learning? My kids have been "in school" since they day they were sent home, but if that was only considered a stop gap measure until they got back in class, perhaps they drop that now?

But no, they are strangely quiet. They deserve the shite pay they get IMO. They are as useless as their salary would indicate. Nothing more than gov't funded babysitters.
The reality is they lost about 2-3 weeks of actual education.
April is test prep and testing. May is field trips, surveys, and extra credit.
And there are a number of teachers out there who are suggesting school start 2 weeks early next year.

This week our school system is starting online learning. After doing basically self-study for the last month.
The school district said students are "expected" to do the work, but apparently teachers are being told they can't penalize a student for not doing it. But, if they do the work, the teachers can count it and it will help raise their final grade.
So, basically it's extra credit.

Babysitters don't come cheap. I don't have kids, but I'm glad there are public schools to keep kids occupied all day.
I'd love to see a longer school day and full year school. I think it is crazy that people get a full salary for 190 days of work. Average teacher pay in my district is $50,000 per year.

Like I said earlier, they lost 2-3 weeks of instructional time, and 6-7 weeks of testing and bullshite end of year stuff.
The only thing they learn after April 1 is test strategies.

I'm just at a loss for these blanket closures.
Okay. Lets say Orleans Parish still has some issues. 20% of their staff have been infected and/or are in quarantine. Similar issues with Food Service workers. Keep them closed.
Caddo has one school with some issues related to the staff. Keep that school closed.
Avoyelles has a bus shortage. Allow waivers for those students who take the bus.
Why must a school system with no issues, or the ability to provide contingencies not be able to open? We don't close down Jeff Davis Parish schools when there's a tornado in Ouachita Parish.
I know the answer is JBE wants more federal money and the way to do that is to keep schools closed, which keeps businesses from operating a full capacity, which allows for "economic loss" and the opportunity for federal funds. But these blanket orders are foolish.

Where have you looked? Have you checked the social media pages of all teachers? Have you watched news coverage on all stations across the state? Or are you just dumping on teachers since you had a bad experience in school?
Grow up . . . just like others that have been negatively affected by the pandemic, what the hell good is it going to do for them to bitch about it?

We should all be going back to work by May 1st.
School should start back up. School was supposed to end on May 22nd. Extend it to the 29th, or hell go two weeks into June for all i care.
I don't have a problem with school going into June. Give them July off, then start back up the new year in August like normal.
If we aren't going back to work, then school can stay closed, but if we go back to work, kids need to go back to school. I paid for a certain number of days of school. If they aren't going to go to school for 1/3 of the school year, then give me 1/3 of my money back for my private school tuition, and i want a tax break for the money i paid for the public school kids too.
