A fool and their money. Like I just wrote (and you didn't quote) I don't agree with everything he says but he is 100% correct on the masculine part. Do you hate this dude or something?

Good summary. He’s like the douchebag version of Jordan Peterson.

Yeah. There are a lot of similarities there and it just shows how starved young men are for leadership and meaning in the west.

The movie is lame, but I always think of this quote:

quote:

People want leadership, Mr. President, and in the absence of genuine leadership, they'll listen to anyone who steps up to the microphone. They want leadership. They're so thirsty for it they'll crawl through the desert toward a mirage, and when they discover there's no water, they'll drink the sand.

Not really. I only know of him because of the Tucker video and the video I posted in the OP.

It's not either or

I doubt anyone wants to blame Tate as the originator of these ills. But feeding into a cycle that harms women which in turn harms men and in turn makes our society more vapid, meaningless, etc. isn't good

OnlyFans and the excessive sexualization of very young women for money is bad. I'm not going to pretend it's novel, but it's easier than ever and more are doing it more publicly than ever. We can argue about whether it's bad for women I guess, but think of any decent guy you know and think about whether he'd want his daughter or sister to do it. Some of that apprehension is his own shame, but some is the deeply felt belief that it's harmful to a woman he cares about and will damage her future. So I think that's probably your answer.

And even if you lack any moral/religious objection to this, I think there is a net societal negative at making vice more and more mainstream and taking away the elements of shame. In short, teen boys looking at scrambled Skinemax took work for your prurient payoff. Being able to see endless girls getting right to the things you'd otherwise work hard to access (whether pornography or IRL) is objectively a bad thing in my mind. And that doesn't begin to touch on the guys using OF and the like to substitute for real relationships. We can talk about how they're driven to this by the real world dating scene and modern women - but it's circular, our cheap, vapid society has pushed women to be like this, which in turn has pushed men to seek alternatives.

Is that all? Women manipulate men all the time. Unless he is holding them against their will, it's no different than used car salesman pulling the wool over people's eyes.

Guess what: people will put their ethics to the side when it comes to making money, even if it’s legal. Welcome to the real world. If you can’t accept that, I don’t know what else to say. We live in a dog-eat-dog world now where people want to compete to be at the top. That’s just how it is. It sucks, but it’s the reality of the world we live in now

I think the point is that we're not idolizing used car salesmen either

I wouldn't say he's a douche, but he is making bank off of desperation. That's really all these self-help gurus are. They're no different than televangelists or Tony Robbins types.

I get it. There are a lot of young men out there that didn't have a strong Father Figure in their lives. They're trying to find a new messiah. The thing is, there already is a Messiah and His message is all you need.

A lot of people do and don't even know it. The shyster that tries to separate people from their money is an archetype that many people try to emulate.

I think JP is sort of aloof and weird. I was fascinated by the movement early on and the vacuum he filled, but I don't pay much attention to him anymore.

But I also don't think he's really leading men astray. I think young men who genuinely follow his advice in the way JP intends it will usually become better versions of themselves.

I can see that. He seems like a genuine guy, but he also seems to have some major insecurity issues that he's battling. I don't hold that against him, but it seems odd that so many people look to him for guidance.

Tangent: It would seem that traditional organizations like, The Church, really missed a great opportunity to speak directly to people with the internet. There are so many good messages that would resonate with young people and honestly they really need right now.

Same here. The things he discussed really resonate re: masculinity.

Yes the link in the OP is pretty bad. Would have never known this from the Tucker interview.
