Not really. While it had some minimal impact it wasn't near enough to cause that large of a rise. We invaded Iraq in 2001 and gas prices didn't start to spike hard until around 2005. Global demands rising, Wall Street market speculation, Katrina disrupting the US supply chain, and various other geopolitical issues we had little over were far more impactful.

Presidents don't really have much of anything to do with gas prices. It doesn't matter which party is in charge.

This doesn't mean some boon for oil and gas. No Capex was spent last year, so two years of necessary repairs, turnarounds, etc.. are getting done. Greenfield is almost nonexistent for offshore.

Add to that, hands that have worked for us for years are happy doing nothing, making 70k sitting on their couch with their family of four. We are still at 1/3rd of our employee total from 2019 and can't find anyone that wants to work. Everyone of our competitors has the same problem.

I know politics is prone to hyperbole on both sides but holy fricking shite. Words have meaning, and the ones you are using are completely incorrect.

Louisiana bases its budget on the average price of oil being $59 a barrel. Spot price of oil is currently $66 a barrel, and this board has told me many times that the price of oil bottoming out is terrible for the people of this state.

So... why are we mad about this, other than it's the right's turn for Biden Bad instead of Orange Man Bad?

Gas prices

Hey, look before you are incorrect again.

Obama 2009-2017, highest average gas prices

How about posting something that doesn't ask me to pay for their stats?

I'm going by average annual prices. Not the high and low of each year. This is form Forbes. LINK

And once again, those prices had very little at best to do with what Obama or Bush or Trump were doing at the time w/domestic policy. We don't control what's going on elsewhere in the world w/the other major oil producers and the President doesn't control market demands or the market speculation that inevitably comes out of those world events.

No, but the government does control multiple aspects that affect the price of oil/gas.

They aren’t the main players, but the president can have an impact.

To deny that is naïveté and merely a ploy to avoid “your politician’s” culpability in the matter.

Valid graph but do not forget the external forces like when the saudis opened their valves to drive the price down and put the US independent out of business...everyone was yelling for govt to step in and get prices back up ...

none of the players bid on those leases. they knew it wouldn't ever be worth it. gas prices are climbing for reasons that have nothing to do with Alaska

Two small companies and rest picked up by state of Alaska with hopes of flipping them in a few years when price of oil up and economics work...

No one is going to explore for conventional oil in a harsh drilling environment when they can jump back into the resource plays once oil price over 50-60 again ...(which is now happening..isn’t the right count up over sams time last year???)

Even if you had a prospect you would not be drilling there anytime soon..

Economics outweighs politics..

It’s like they’re purposely trying to hurt America.

I just don’t get it.

hey are. Eventually the State will own all energy companies, financial transactions, etc. They'll come for your 401k too.

Democrat politicians (for the most part) are just playing the part, but the real people pulling the strings want a revolution.

Hopefully they just piss off more people than they can buy off. Probably when the medical and legal industries are socialized and brought under government.

Do you blame them? They did the same thing to nuclear power 40 years ago. Regulate and litigate it to hell to artificially drive up construction and operating costs. Turn around and straight-face claim that nuke power is no cheaper than fossil fuel energy plants.
Worked like a charm.

Most are too retarded to understand that with more widespread nuclear power, we wouldn't be worried about climate change today.

Utopians don't understand universal laws of unintended consequences.

I’m less concerned about the gas prices as I am the impact on national security. Being dependent on foreign energy sources could easily cripple the U.S.
