Just over a hundred years ago, the guy who cut your hair also pulled teeth. So there is that.

My dentist is a high school friend so I just call him by his first name. Same as my PCP because we’ve known each other for years.

But when I refer to them in the third person and it’s regarding their occupation I always say Doctor

I do that with almost anyone who has achieved a doctorate

Except lawyers. Lawyers who insist on being called “doctor” are crazy. And yes, as a lawyer myself I have met people like that.

Is "deep cleaning" a scam?

And if not, how much should it cost?

And I call dentists doctors.

“So what?”

“So what? So let's dance!”

Are you sensitive when people correct your spelling?

Dentists are doctors and are addressed as such. They just specialize in teeth.

I consider my dentist a Shyster first and foremost.

He is next a doctor of teeth.

In that order.

Great timed thread. I spent about 4 hours yesterday googling on a similar question, are Dentist allowed to do and sign off on school and youth sport physical exams?

Y'all can write scripts and the statutes state you should perform physical exams before oral surgery and/or anesthesia but nothing I can find definitively answers my question. I even tried calling the state (FL) board and regulatory offices and no one could give me an answer. The forms just state "health care professional", "licensed state examiner", "medical professional" or the sort. Some list D.O. or even R.N. as examples but always end with an "etc." to the list.

So tbabino, do you know the answer or have you signed that type of form during your career? If so, what state?
