re: Arguing white privilege, should you really engage?

The media is to blame for much of the racial outrage in this country. They like to stir shite up.

TD is the only place I have seen white privilege being discussed so often.

Had someone irl try to tell me I have white privilege. I told them yes I do and I am quite proud of it. I let them bitch and moan for a minute and I then told them, not really. But it am going with it because it pisses you off.

My wife's life long best friend, a raging SJW who resides in Portland, told my Trump supporting wife that she was unable see her error because of her white privilege and repressed misogyny. I told her that the extent of her Marxist indoctrination was disturbing.

I also conceded the point of white privilege to her one time to see how she though we could use this knowledge to our benefit as a society. She said "I don't know how we can use this". This makes the discussion pointless.

I think it is a tool to promote socialist entitlement programs. If you are growing up in the hood it's probably harder to succeed (I work in the inner city). But I don't buy this disadvantage for middle class blacks. There are 35,000 black millionaires in the US. Clearly there is plenty of opportunity for the talented and determined.

I have a lot of friends who are making very broad and general remarks about BLM, and every single shooting that takes place, regardless of the facts. I largely ignore them, because no matter what I say- it will be taken the wrong way. Its a no win situation.

I get your point and I agree for the most part. I certainly don't agree that the privilege is because of skin color.

However, a person born to a junkie mother and with an absent father, that lives in the inner-city of a large metro area such as Chicago, is absolutely disadvantaged from the start. Yes, it's his parents fault but he is still disadvantaged. Yes, it's possible for that person to pull themselves up if they happen to have a counselor or principle at school that will guide them but that's a long shot. It would have to be a real life version of the movie Lean On Me
