Someone makes a comment about white privilege on a form of media, do you engage or let it be?

Depends on what you're trying to do. If you really want to convince someone of an actual position on policy, then probably not. If you just want to reinforce pre-existing ideas and feel like you're smarter than someone, go for it.

Arguing just about anything on the Internet is a waste of time

Indulging dishonest ideological idiocy is never a good idea. Just ridicule it and move along.

I have a cousin who is married to a black guy. She has pretty much convinced herself that anyone related to her that has made anything of themselves is because of white privileges.

When I ask her how, it's that basically because I'm white is the only reason people have done business with me or wanted me to invest more or be a financial backer in anything.

I told her that makes no sense what so ever. I said why don't black folks with money do smart financial stuff and teach other black folks the same.

She gets super pissed when we talked about it. Of course, I bring it up just to stir her up cause it's funny

Any rational person uses whatever advantage they have. If you have some kind of privilege, you're foolish to not make the most o of it.

Hell no. People that have already made up their minds can't be convinced.

Best not to because they've already made up another phrase--"white fragility"--to scream at you when you disagree with their assumptions of white privilege.

Respond but refuse to call it white privilege. Refer to it as "majority privilege" and ask what other countries, such as those in sub-Sahara Africa, have done to successfully address the problem.

People can change their mind. Like most of this board, the thought of white privilege insulted me when I first heard about it. But when I got thinking about it, it's true. I feel like those that deny it just don't understand what it is, or don't want to.

Hell, segregation was abolished only a short time ago. Having a bias against black people (subconscious or conscious) doesn't just vanish in that short amount of time.

*I'm a white male btw

White privilege has become one of my pet peeves.

The term - by DEFINITION - is obviously racist. What about poor white people, where is their privilege?

What burns me up, is that my children will undoubtedly end up hearing about this most of their lives. Yes, we are wealthy -- and NO - it has nothing to do with skin color.

I grew up low, low middle class. Food was on the table, but there was nothing else - no toys, no games, no cool kid clothes - etc.

I have spent the last 20 years of my life trying to flip the script for my kids. And I have. My kids will without question live a better life than I did.

ISN'T THAT THE ENTIRE MOTHERfrickING POINT?

The only place I've seen white privilege mentioned is the Internet and I don't argue with people there
