How much you get are we talking? Happier than when I was a child? Probably not, childhood was a super happy time for me, being a kid and playing all day being carefree with no stress or responsibilities.

Happier than I was when I was 20? Yes, I love my job, my wife, my kid, my friends, etc.... college was awesome but I’m happier now

I am.

27, good job, good side job, no kids.

Can afford to do things now. Just wish everything was back to normal so I can enjoy 3-4 years of being kid free

I was probably happiest between 17-23, something like that. I just didn’t really know it. I think I’ve always struggled inside to know what happiness really is and feel like I’m not quite there but it’s almost here. That when I think I’m at my happiest.

There was always a lingering anxiety in college. It was fun, but the next step was right around the corner. Kids were getting internships or doing cool things to advance their career. I felt like I was at the bottom of the class and was going to be screwed come graduation. Being two years removed from school now and having a large savings nest egg built up from working is a blessing. I could lose everything and have time to sit around and ponder my next move.

I was "happier" in college when I went to class for a few hours a day Monday through Thursday and then spent the rest of my time partying with my friends. I lived in nice house, I ate well, I had all the premium channels, and a vehicle. The kicker? Someone else paid for it. So long as I kept my scholarship and graduated within 4 1/2 years, the deal was that my parents would pay my expensive and give me an allowance to go do fun shite. Of COURSE I was happy, because I had very little responsibility and did whatever I wanted to do, for the most part. That lifestyle is not sustainable, though.

I graduated in 2007, and the economy went to shite when I was just starting my career. My mid-20's were stressful as shite. I worked for 2 companies that folded in that time and if I hadn't had parents that were able to lend me some money in those years, I'd have either had to move back home or be homeless. My wife and I look back on those times and honestly wonder how we made ends meet back then.

I am much more fulfilled now. I have a wife that I love dearly, a job that I enjoy and that pays me very well, and I have a degree of respect in my industry and community. I am fortunate enough to be able to travel and see historical sights, natural land formations, and architecture that I would not be able to experience if I was bumming around trying to catch that high of my late-teens and early 20's. I might also be dead from cirrhosis of the liver by now if I tried to keep that lifestyle going.

Of course there are days when I am stressed out and wish I was still living that carefree lifestyle, but overall I'm happier and healthier than when I was younger.

Defiantly happier now. Wife, kids, house, good friends & family, love my job, etc. I know things are going to get crazy in the coming years, dealing with teenage daughters.

I'm perfectly happy now but the first 5 or so years out of college were pretty awesome.

I was still young but no longer broke. Still partying like a college kid at times but still didn't have many responsibilities at that age.

I am paying attention to this thread. Currently early 30s, not married, no kids, not a baller (about 90k in New Orleans), minimal responsibility, stress free. Ole girl wants me to move in with her cross country (doubt we’ll ever have kids though). Honestly, I have some doubts. Sounds like the big change.

It’s all relative

My outlook and needs/wants have shifted

Today I’m much more content and the rollercoaster ride has slowed down to steady pace.

The highs aren’t nearly as high (literally and figuratively ) but the lows aren’t even close to as low. No more spectacular crashing and burning.

I was doing a lot of searching when I was younger. Had a great face to put on in public and did all the typical things during college trying to fit in, but didn’t really decide who I was until mid/late 20s

This is the problem with a vast majority of people. I only know 1 or maybe 2 people that actually "enjoy" what they do

I’m here too. If I had a job that I at least somewhat cared about then I’d be happier. I hate my job and have been actively looking for another but the timing isn’t real good for that, as you surely know. I have to remind myself daily to be thankful for it and to just have a sourpuss attitude.

But I know how I am, 2 years from now I’ll be at another job and will have forgotten how much I hated this job and will look back and see it as chaotic, but manageable. I guess it depends on where I’m at in 2 years though. If I’m under the interstate in a box, then these will be the ‘good ole days’, I guess.

It is all relative and like others have said it is easy to romanticize the past.

That being said, the rat race is wearing me out. I feel at times that my life is passing me by and I will have wasted it toiling away in an office for upwards of 50 hours a week to have a bigger bank account.

I guess I am having a bit of a crisis of purpose. I do not hate my job but it is a means to an end and I struggle with the meaninglessness of it at times.

I have abandoned many friendships and sacrificed dating and relationships for my 20s and now I sit here at 31 and am wondering if this is it.

I make way more money than I need but I am missing that human connection and the feeling of being loved. I have no material wants but something feels like it is missing.

Perhaps it is a first world problem but it seems we may have been sold a false bill of goods by chasing material items and careers and money.

Destiny and Dr. K had a chat yesterday and covered this topic and it has been resonating with me.

I'm 32 and MUCH happier than I was 10 years ago. Still broke. Still trashy. But my perspective on what actually matters in life is 180 degrees from what it was back then.

The meaning of life is the meaning in your life. Find the shite that makes you happy and do it. Don't let the expectations of others force you into a direction that makes you miserable.

We get older, land a stable job, start a family and all the related responsibilities. Question is, are you really happier now than your younger days?

Maybe it's time to get away from these expectations from society and do what actually makes us happy...

What do you suggest people do, leave the family and go chase hoes and blow?

When you're young you have a lot of time, no responsibility, and no money. Then you hit middle age.

Now you have lots of responsibility, and more money, but no time to use it. Then you get old.

Now you have no responsibility, more money, but no time left.
