Are you happier now than your younger days?

We get older, land a stable job, start a family and all the related responsibilities. Question is, are you really happier now than your younger days?
Maybe it's time to get away from these expectations from society and do what actually makes us happy...

It’s very easy to romanticize the past. Very easy to only remember the good times and not the bad, which is a good thing I guess, but not if it makes you less happy now.

You can't be a carefree kid forever. If you're doing it right, you are going to be saddled with responsibilities as you get older. Obligations are "less fun" than total freedom... but that's life.

I don't know about happy.I'm more at peace now.I'm calmer.More thoughtful.More rational.
That brings a certain happiness,I guess.

Mid 20s, single, high paying (relatively speaking) job with zero stress. At best I can say I'm not sad. I'm definitely not busting at the seems with happiness.

Unpopular opinion, but yes. When I was younger there was always the possibility that I'd frick it up somehow and end up like many in my family have. I also never really liked being a dependent after age 18. Now that I'm credentialed, experienced, etc. the possibility of it all evaporating before me is extremely low. Plus, I'm still in my early 30s and feel young. Give me 30 and secure all day over 23 and hoping to God it's going to work out.

I'd question why bring these obligations upon ourselves if it makes us less happy.

I was probably happiest between 17-23, something like that. I just didn’t really know it. I think I’ve always struggled inside to know what happiness really is and feel like I’m not quite there but it’s almost here. That when I think I’m at my happiest.
I also have had some times where I was extremely unhappy but those times have been short 6 -12 months probably.

Absolutely.
Younger days were definitely more fun, but also filled with more uncertainty, loneliness, debt, no religious connection and small problems that felt much more stressful than they actually were.
It’s easy to look back and say “wow, I had it so easy back then”, but it doesn’t mean it felt like that back then.

I have more and cooler shite now than I did when I was younger, but being young and have zero responsibilities was much more fun especially in the 80's.
