I seriously doubt this is average.
If you made only $60K, you'd never get approved for a $250K+ house and a $40K car, and if you did, it would be nearly impossible to pay for it.
it's basically $3k a month for those two when you include insurance, electricity, water/sewer, phone, internet, etc.

You're only taking home about $40k, and $36k of it is going to home/car.

The 1600 house note and 700 car note speaks for almost all of the monthly take home on a 60k salary

Not really. Take home would be ~$3726 married in La according to Smartasset paycheck calculator
So, over $1400 remaining or over 1/3 of takehome pay. That doesnt leave much for saving/investment which is how its being done. Too many are living paycheck to paycheck driving more car and living in nicer homes than they can afford while not preparing for retirement.

While I'm at it:

I’m not likely to get much past the foyer, but I’m scraping paint/varnish off those foyer walls, the ceiling, and the floor.

Average Person (if they have these)

House payment- ~1600 Mine is currently zero but I will gear up to build by the end of the year.

Credit card debt ~6000 I am technically above since I have Citi flex loan on one of my cars at 2% and owe about 7k on it and I make more interest in my high yield savings.

Car note ~700 Slightly lower

Salary ~60,000 Should be double this after my raise in a couple months.

House paid off, no credit card debt, no car note. Salary above 60k.

I really don't know how people do it. People probably look at my ranch house and assume we are can't afford better, but I much prefer peace of mind over a fancy car or a bigger house.
