I don't really have set hours. I can go weeks without seeing my manager. I'm in a "sales" position, but I'm more of an engineering advisor for our equipment. I need to be in the customers office for when they have questions or when I need to propose equipment for a new job.
Sometimes I'm needed at the drop of a hat. Other times, it's slow and I can take the afternoon, or even the whole day off and no one would notice (or really care). As long as I take care of what I need to.
It's horrible when a lot is needed from me. Leave the house before 6, and get back around 8 (I've got a 5 month old, so that schedule means I pretty much don't get to see him).
Other times, it's awesome. I'm home whenever I feel like it and pretty much get Fridays off.

Some do. Almost all relatively large cities hire geologists to work with civil engineers on road and bridge development and shite like that. Those benefits are too notch, expect ally the paid time off, but the pay itself may not be up there.
I'd consider taking a apay cut to work for the city personally. How awesome would it be to be off for MLK day, Presidents' Day, Veterans Day, Columbus Day and many others.

Until recently, I worked 5 days a week, 7-530 and Saturdays 7-12
Now, I'm an OT BALLA OPERATOR and I work 7 days and 7 nights a month. 5-5. I love this schedule and I'm off waaaay more than I used to be. The only downside is that I have to work 2 weekends a month.

8-5 monday-friday hr lunch break
Network Administrator at a state hospital
I like my job for the most part. Its simple "for me" im not outside busting my arse daily. They hospital is very family orientied with high values and morals. For the most part everyone gets along and its a home away from home in some sense. Beings its a state job the main perks are the paid time off. I get every holiday off, every weekend off, and even some of the odd state holidays like confederate memorial day, and veterans day off some dont. I also accumulate 14hrs of personal time each month that rolls over every yr so its easy to get alot of vacation time. Im sitting on 40 vacation days right now and i have only been here 5 years... and i take off a minimum 15-20 days per year vacation. Absolutely love that.
My only complaint is my drive, 45 mins one way. So i dont get home until rougly 6pm most days.

Field: vet med, actual job too specific to name
Yes, love it - def. my career. Too much time/money invested in getting this far even if I didn't like it. Yes, I buy into the mission and values as they're why I started down this path in the first place.

Project Engineer/Project Manager for fabricator that builds custom pressure vessels primarily destined for oil refineries.
It was overwhelming at first and I hated it because big oil companies have enormous volumes of specifications, and becoming familiar with ASME code is a burden, but once I started to get a knack for the industry I've found my job to be very satisfying. It's extremely hectic, and it seems there is a crisis that needs to be solved every other day or so, but it is very rewarding to see these massive projects put together under your direction.
I work anywhere from 7-3:30 to 7:00-7:00, depending on what all I need to complete that day. On average probably 7:00-5:30ish. There's so much to do though that I don't really notice how much I'm working.
The third party engineering firms hired by smaller refineries are a huge pain in the arse though, and generally don't know what the hell they're talking about. They just think something looks cool on paper and go with it, not having a clue what actually goes into the work.

Marketing consulting. There are few, truly "passionate" people about the industry. But there are a lot of folks who fake a passion for it.
I mean, it's not something you say you want to be when you grow up.
Love my company and people I work with. Clients are a bit tiresome at times, but I'm established enough where I can fire them too if things get too bad. 9-5'er but schedule is very flexible and a lot of freedom/PTO time when I can take it.
