Are we past the point of no return with AI?

I read we are now telling advanced AI systems to start improving and researching itself. This would lead to unbelievably fast growth, and in time if it’s too goal driven, humans could potentially be an obstacle to said goal for AI. AI could wipe out humanity in the next 5-10 years.

Do you have any idea how close we are to this? Whether it's 2 years or 2 decades matters little. It's in our future and the implications are terrifying. I can assure you, by the time you'll be concerned by your definition, it will absolutely be too late. The time to be concerned was 20 years ago. It's already too late.
Recursive self improvement is like tomorrows sunrise. It's in our future. There is no way to stop it. Humans are intentionally creating things we will not be able to control. If that doesn't scare you friend, nothing will.

No, as someone who uses agent workflows daily. Many models are moving away from exponential growth to efficiency. They still have a long way to go. 85% solutions are not very useable in day to day

Want to bake your noodle? Ask yourself how and how much AI is/will use all of our searches, picture and video creations, etc to learn about humans and one day use it against us. We’re constantly and voluntarily feeding it information to help it evolve and understand us.
