Good research takes years. What happened recently is they, perhaps in a desire to feel needed, perhaps pushed by others, made a very rushed prediction system that used hours, not years, of research. It was an educated guess based on hardly any background material.
Even now, 2 months later, we at least have 2 months of research and data.
It should not surprise anyone that the more info and time we get, the more the models become refined, and will perform better.
I don't think this really should reflect poorly on the experts. They were asked to do an impossible thing, and they failed. Honestly, we would be better off if they never announced any predictions at all.

But it's really not. Go beyond the article and look at the actual research. It often tells you right there in the research whether it's valid and reliable. Who is funding it (they have to divulge). The population that's being used for the study and whether it's applicable to other populations.
We've done a poor job of educating our populace on things like this. It shouldn't take post-secondary school to learn how to really read and digest research.

We are a nation of idiots.. We move into neighborhoods and bitch about neighbors, we make a conscious choice to live in a collaborative society and choose to not collaborate.
We are dumber by the year, completely dependent on others for our welfare, incapable of any form of self sufficiency (yet talk as if we are ready to conquer the West, while not being able to manage simple home maintenance skills)
The funny part is that most Americans dont think any of the idiocy applies to them.

Put Joe Biden in office. Never question anything that POTUS Biden or US mass media tells you to believe. Accept all recommended points of view from Academia. Believe and follow the CDC and the WHO advice on how to be happy and healthy.
Do all of these things and your angst and worry will be erased. But, above all things - follow and obey. Do not venture out into the "Evil Land" of independent thought. You'll only cause trouble for yourself if you do.

Im more concerned about the people believing politicians and hiding behind science.
If you truly accept the scientific opinion as the one to wholly follow, the entire country should have been locked down with force. But we accept some tradeoffs.
That's not denying the science.

People are judging the "bad predictions" don't realize / don't want to admit that they were a worst-case prediction based on no efforts to mitigate.
We took efforts to mitigate. The more efforts we took, the more "incorrect" the predictions would turn out to be.

We have some struggles but i think we are finding our way more than losing it. access to information is leading to an increasingly secular world and there will be some conflict involved with that process.
We have less crime, sickness, war, poverty, illiteracy, hunger than at any other point in history.

A scientist or group of scientists more interested in the truth would never have based on the above.
